We have five teams left for our series of WCG Dynasty Fantasy Football roster assessments.
Today we are looking at Jeff Berckes’ roster. JB took over this roster this past offseason and is working on retooling it and tweaking it into his image.
Is this roster ready to win now? Does it need to rebuild? Let’s take a look at the roster and see how it looks:
Let’s start with the offense, and let’s start in the QB room. There’s not an issue here. Have to love Joe Burrow as a QB1, and Cam Ward as a developmental
guy, and your QB2 absolutely works. As for Watson? I don’t think he’s got anything left in the tank, but he 100% deserves a roster spot, so it is what it is there.
JB may have every running back in the league. A dozen backs on the roster, if healthy, Hampton and Skattebo should be a solid starting duo, and there is some decent depth behind them. There’s a handful of dart throws on here as well, but July and August are the time for RB dart throws to see how things look on depth charts come Labor Day.
There’s plenty of talent in the WR room, but there aren’t enough players behind the top talent. JSN, Nabers, London, and Rice, if healthy, are a fabulous WR foursome; Lemon is in a nice spot to develop behind that group, Bateman is always a decent spot start, and Flournoy might have a nice season this year. If the big 4 have any injuries, I worry there aren’t enough players behind them to keep the team afloat.
I don’t see much in the tight end room, but it should be functional. Mark Andrews should be getting plenty of targets after Likely and Kolar have left and Dulcich and Strange score some points from time to time. There’s no upside here, and there’s more downside, but most likely this is a functional room, nothing more, nothing less.
On the defensive side of the ball, we will find some holes. The DT room doesn’t have a lot of scorers. Can Togai repeat last year’s performance? Or was it a bit of a fluke? There’s a lot of talk that his reps will go down this year. Robinson is always decent, but he’s 31. I’m not the biggest believer in Orhorhoro, but if he takes a step forward, that would help the room a lot.
The edge room certainly needs help. Will David Bailey be an impact rookie? JB certainly hopes so. I haven’t given up on Chop Robinson, although perhaps I should. Beyond that, it’s just a lot of rotational players and not much upside.
The LB room has some solid scorers from last year, and he adds Reese into the mix. Gray looks like he should have several years of scoring points; Davis obviously doesn’t have much left, but Bolton and Walker do a good job compiling points. This room looks to be okay.
I like Sainristil as a point scorer at CB; I don’t see too much of a reason for many of the other CBs on the roster.
The safety room is anchored by Emmanwori, which looks great; it could use a handful of stronger safeties beyond that, but it’s decent.
The taxi squad has some talent. Washington, Sarratt, and Raridon are perfect guys to place there, and if Lawrence can have a big rookie season, that would certainly help the edge room.
If JB gets through the season relatively unscathed, I think this team is a playoff team. It has a pretty solid starting lineup; the issue is if there are a few injuries here. This team doesn’t have depth at many different positions, and if JB struggles with injuries, his team is going to find itself drafting in the top 5.
