Welcome to primetime, Highmark Stadium! To get Week 2 of NFL action underway, the Buffalo Bills host the Detroit Lions for the franchise’s first regular-season game at the new Highmark Stadium. It’s been a long time coming, and the wait was made much sweeter with Buffalo winning its Week 1 road game against Houston Texans.
The win in Houston was quarterback Josh Allen’s first, and also the first for the franchise since the 2006 NFL season. Now, they look to start things off on the right foot where
and when it counts in their new home. The hype has been building toward this moment for months, and One Bills Drive is ready to get the party off on the right foot. If you normally turn away at halftime, remember there’s the team’s first-ever major halftime performance by the band OneRepublic.
Pomp and circumstance aside, tonight’s matchup is a massive game that should bring plenty of fireworks to the field. The last time these teams met, the Bills won a 48-42 barnburner at Ford Field. Running back Ty Johnson led Buffalo in receiving, catching all five of his targets for 114 yards. Johnson won’t play tonight, currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Instead, look for Allen and the Bills to work the ball downfield to wide receiver DJ Moore and tight end Dalton Kincaid. Head coach Joe Brady still calls the plays, and you can bet he’s itching to get running back James Cook III going tonight. Cook was visibly upset on the flight home following a fumble in Week 1. As we know, fumbles are often difficult to predict, and Brady has given his vote of confidence in Cook.
