WWE has had tremendous success bringing tours to Europe for years, and under TKO and president Nick Khan’s guidance, those trips have begun to include premium live events more and more.
They passed through Italy on the road to WrestleMania 41, but the country only got a SmackDown in Bologna on that March tour. Next year, Khan says they’ll get a PLE for the first time.
In an interview conducted at the IMG x RedBird Summit, WWE’s president told SportsBusiness it will happen early next year:
“Almost half
of our Premium Live Events take place outside of the United States now. We believe WWE is a global property, we believe the results on these shows, both in terms of attendance and viewership (locally and globally) have been significant. We have seen year-over-year increases for viewership on each one.”
WWE was just in France for Clash in Paris, and will be in Australia next month for Crown Jewel: Perth. These shows have really benefited from hot crowds of European fans who’ve been begging for big shows for years.
Hopefully they’ll still be able to afford tickets when the PLEs arrive.
