Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Jay Glazer – Twitter “Spent a couple days with the Eagles on my annual Glaze Across America NFL Training Camp Tour and the biggest takeaway I walked away with… the number of people at different areas of the team are raving about how much effort Jalen Hurts has put in to improving in many areas on and off the field. Can’t tell you how many “I’m really proud of him” I got. Last year he was at the center of issues but they are speaking a MUCH different tune
on him so far in camp. Even guys who were previously frustrated with him were absolutely praising him for the work he’s put in and the concerted effort he has made. Good for him! It’s never too late and in this league you always need to find ways to improve, evolve and improve some more. It never ends if you want to be THAT GUY! Plus, they think this offense will be much better suited to him, the offensive line, Saquon, all around.“
Eagles-Ravens snap counts: Jihaad Campbell, a starter who was not rested – BGN
Jihaad Campbell was the only projected 2026 full-time starter (non-specialists, obviously) to play in this game. A little interesting.
Jihaad Campbell: ‘Everybody is striving for more and more’ – PhiladelphiaEagles.com
“It’s going to be amazing, man. Everybody is striving for more each and every day. I think it’s going to be amazing to go up against another team, especially joint practice in another environment,” Campbell said. “It’s my first time going against another team in their environment.”
Some Perspective – Iggles Blitz
There isn’t as much good to say about the offense. Andy Dalton got the start and played poorly. His erratic play made it tough to judge some of the other players. I thought Tanner McKee was better, but he was still far from good. Both guys made some curious decisions on who to throw to. The offense couldn’t get into any kind of rhythm and struggled until the end of the game. Cole Payton showed the value in having a mobile QB. His legs brought some life to the offense and put points on the scoreboard. One of the big problems last year was OL depth. Saturday gave us some encouraging signs. Willie Lampkin played well at both G and C. He feels like a lock to make the team. Now the Eagles have to decide how they want to use him.
The Eagles’ backup quarterback battle that nobody is winning – NBCSP
This quarterback competition didn’t have a winner Saturday night. Just two losers. Neither Andy Dalton nor Tanner McKee did anything Saturday night in Baltimore to separate themselves in their battle for the Eagles’ backup quarterback job. They were on the field for a combined eight drives that generated no points, 77 net yards, two first downs, seven punts, 31 rushing yards, 46 passing yards and no plays longer than 13 yards. Only when rookie 5th-round pick Cole Payton entered the game did the Eagles look remotely like an NFL offense. Payton – who’s not part of the competition for the No. 2 spot – ran for 45 yards and threw for 37 with a TD to generate the Eagles’ one scoring drive in the final minutes. As for Dalton and McKee, it was just a lifeless evening in what wound up as a 24-7 preseason loss to the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. “Yeah, execution wasn’t there in a lot of different phases,” McKee said. “Playing behind the sticks was tough just with penalties and stuff. So I would say multiple reasons (for the poor performance), but I would say the penalties and execution.”
Eagles 53-man roster projection 2.0: Will Uar Bernard and Joshua Weru make the team? – The Athletic
Berman (6): Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo, Byron Young, Ty Robinson, Uar Bernard. If you thought Robinson might be on the bubble, he came on this past week and punctuated the practices with a strong performance in the game. Robinson is on the team. The question comes back to Bernard. I’m still in the camp that the Eagles are not exposing him to waivers and are committed to this as a multiyear project. That doesn’t rule out a late-August injury that would allow him to spend a year learning the game and adjusting to NFL life while on injured reserve. But it would surprise me if the Eagles allow him the opportunity to develop elsewhere. That’s why he’ll remain on my 53, barring an injury.
Former Cowboys OG John Niland dies at 82 – PFT
Niland made 111 starts in 124 games over nine seasons with Dallas. He played one season for the Eagles before retiring after the 1975 season.
Cowboys free agency rumors: Cornerback Adoree Jackson could be next after Von Miller – Blogging The Boys
The Dallas Cowboys appear ready for action. About 30 minutes after news broke that veteran pass rusher Von Miller is expected to join the team, the Cowboys formally announced the news as well, it was reported by ESPN that Dallas is looking into cornerback help as well. Jeremy Fowler mentioned Adoree Jackson as the name to watch here.
Commanders Free Agency: Former Washington RB added with Jeremy McNichols out – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders had eight players in for workouts on Sunday and four of them were running backs. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed that veteran RB Jeremy McNichols would be sidelined for a few weeks with a quad injury. Washington has now signed Craig Reynolds for training camp and the final two preseason games per ESPN’s John Keim.
Cornerback retires after 4 days with NY Giants – Big Blue View
Cornerback Sam Webb has retired from football four days after signing with the New York Giants. Webb signed with the Giants on Thursday, played 14 snaps on Saturday in the Giants’ preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings, and was placed on the NFL reserve/retired list on Sunday. The 28-year-old Webb has played in 36 NFL games over four seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, Carolina Panthers, and Cleveland Browns. The Giants have had a rash of injuries at cornerback, with Dru Phillips, Paulson Adebo, and Greg Newsome all missing time.
6 NFL Preseason standouts from Week 1 – SB Nation
Yes, we know — there are myriad reasons nobody should get over-excited about preseason performances in the NFL. The vast majority of the league run vanilla defensive schemes, trying to ensure they don’t give anything away before the real football begins, and teams have so many rotating pieces on both sides of the ball that the teams we’re seeing right now end up being nothing like their counterparts a month from now. Need more convincing? The Giants and Browns were the most dominant teams in preseason a year ago, while the Seahawks and Packers both looked like they were struggling. From a top-down view it’s critical not to get carried away with full-team performances, but we can start to see trends emerge in the preseason when it comes to individual players, particularly young guys who already appear as if they’re adjusting to the NFL and ready to surprise. These are the biggest standout performers now that every team has played at least one game.
