Chris Padilla didn’t lose at UFC 327, but after a formal protest, he will not take home the win either.
A person with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that Padilla’s protest to the Florida Athletic Commission was denied after the lightweight was caught up in a confusing scoring error in his UFC 327 opposite MarQuel Mederos.
Padilla was originally announced the winner via majority decision with a pair of 29-27 scorecards, and a 28-28. But around an hour later, it was revealed
that two of the judges actually scored it 28-28, which resulted in the majority decision win being changed to a majority draw.
“Florida commission responded to our protest, they denied us,” Padilla’s management team told MMA Fighting in statement. “They stand by their scorecards. Result stays.”
The decision is puzzling, as the overwhelming majority seemed to feel as if Padilla clearly won the fight, not to mention Mederos was deducted a point in Round 3 for multiple eye pokes. In fact, MMA Decisions saw all 14 media members score the bout for Padilla, with more than half scoring the bout 30-26 for “Taco.”
Padilla remains unbeaten in the UFC, but his hope to improve his octagon record to 5-0 did not come to fruition. Padilla stopped three of his first four UFC opponents, including an impressive TKO win over Ismael Bonfim this past November.
