Neil Leibman, who has been part of the business side of the Texas Rangers organization since 2010, “will step down from his position with the club to focus on other business opportunities, effective immediately,” per a story in the DMN that addresses this announcement this morning. Leibman, who was part of the ownership group headed by Bob Simpson and Ray Davis that purchased the Rangers from Tom Hicks, will still retain his ownership interest in the team.
Leibman has held a number of roles with the
organization, including being the team’s COO and president of business operations in the past. He had been the chairman for Rangers Sports Media & Entertainment Company, which is the entity dealing with the Rangers’ television broadcasts since those rights returned to the Rangers amidst the Bally Sports bankruptcy. I’m not entirely sure what his portfolio consisted of prior to his departure, aside from overseeing the television broadcast entities, as both the Grant article and Leibman’s bio on the Rangers’ website are not clear on that front.
Leibman has an ownership interest in BZZR, the entity that is now handling the streaming of Rangers games, but that is, per the announcement, not connected to his departure.
