We can’t have a transfer window without doing some business with Brighton & Hove Albion, and since the Julio Enciso deal appears to have fallen through thanks to some concerns with the player’s medical, we have apparently switched targets to fellow attacking midfielder Facundo Buonanotte instead.
Like Enciso, Buonanotte isn’t really part of the thinking at Brighton, having spent the last season out on loan at Leicester City. Unlike Enciso, who didn’t really do much as an Ipswich loanee, Buonanotte was
one of the brighter spots at also-relegated Leicester, scoring a handful of Premier League goals in over 30 appearances. Perhaps most importantly, he isn’t dealing with lengthy injury issues.
Buonanotte was signed from Rosario Central in January 2023, and has gone on to make 71 Premier League appearances in the two and a half years since. According to Fabrizio Romano, he’s not a “BlueCo project” target (as Enciso would’ve been) but rather someone we want at Chelsea right away. There’s no word of how much a potential transfer fee might be, but it sounds like we might also just grab him on loan initially, which would certainly be a cheaper option than Fermín López.
