As expected, soon after agreeing the deal for Aarón Anselmino, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea have also agreed the deal for Carney Chukwuemeka. According to the latest reports, the deal will be worth around €25m, plus some add-ons, and a “heavy” sell-on clause. This is in line for what’s been reported recently in this long drawn-out process.
Chukwuemeka spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund already, and while his performances didn’t exactly warrant the exercise of the €40m buy-option
that was included at the time, evidently they were enough for BVB to strike a deal at a lower going rate. Chelsea had paid around £25m to Aston Villa for Chukwuemeka in 2022, so our player-traders aren’t exactly looking at massive profits here, but it’s a decent deal for a player who had struggled to make an impact in the SW6.
Hopefully the move provides some stability for Carnz to recover his previously upwards-trending career trajectory. We wish him all the best luck!
