Per information from Sky Sport (via @iMiaSanMia), Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy has reportedly left the Guinea national team camp after picking up some sort of injury. This comes after he was an unused sub in Guinea’s 2-1 World Cup qualifying win over Mozambique in Zimpeto. Going into the international break, it has since come out that the Dortmund man is “physically heavily battered” and only travelled to link up with the national team out if his pure love for playing for his nation.
So far, he has played all but one match for Dortmund this season, having missed out on the 2-0 win at FSV Mainz at the end of September and he has tallied six goals and three assists from a total of eight appearances across all competitions thus far.
Despite having already left Guinea’s national team camp ahead of their second of two World Cup qualifiers against Botswana, Guirassy’s involvement in next weekend’s installment of Der Klassiker against Bayern Munich is not in jeopardy, as per Sky Sport’s Patrick Berger. Per Berger, there was direct consultation between staff members from Dortmund and the Guinea national team to allow Guirassy to leave camp early, especially since the African nation can no longer qualify for the 2026 World Cup. They currently sit in fourth place in group G of African World Cup qualifying and cannot mathematically make it to the playoff rounds for a berth into next summer’s tournament.
For Bayern, while this outcome might’ve been predictable given Guinea’s position in not being able to qualify for the World Cup and having rested Guirassy vs. Mozambique, it will certainly be a point of concern addressed by Vincent Kompany ahead of Der Klassiker. On the flip side, Harry Kane was rested for England’s friendly win against Wales at Wembley, but that likely won’t be the case for Tuesday’s qualifier at Latvia as England could clinch qualification for the World Cup if results elsewhere in their group go in their favor.
Elsewhere in Bayern’s attack, all of Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry, Luis Diaz and Nicolas Jackson will be coming off of involvement with their national teams, so in theory, Guirassy should be the freshest and most rested striker going into the Bundesliga clash between Dortmund and Bayern.
