After several contradicting reports on Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold’s injury, confirmation on exactly what he’s dealing with has come to light.
According to ESPN’s Brady Henderson, a team spokesperson confirmed Darnold is dealing with a “very unique” soft tissue injury, but it is considered short-term. The medical staff is reportedly working to see how he responds to treatment before determining an exact return timeline.
Although there remains no timeline on when the Super Bowl winning quarterback could potentially return to action, the spokesperson’s comments seemingly rule out a trip to injured reserve. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported that a 4-6 week absence was possible, which would certainly make IR a consideration in that scenario.
Darnold was present at the facility on Monday but was not seen participating in practice. Backup Drew Lock is in line to draw the start on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, with Darnold already being deemed unlikely to play.
Further information should become available during head coach Mike Macdonald’s press conference on Wednesday. The team will also release it’s first practice report of the week in the afternoon.
