The Baltimore Ravens defeated the New York Jets by a score of 23-10 on Sunday afternoon. The Ravens move to 6-5 and could take over first place in the AFC North if the Bears can close out a win over the Steelers. It was an uninspiring victory, but a victory nonetheless. Here are the reactions from Baltimore Beatdown’s staff:
The Ravens just don’t know how to win unless they win ugly. That was the case on Sunday afternoon, when a 13-point margin of victory does not properly represent an uninspiring
performance from the Ravens offense. Neither Lamar Jackson nor the run game could find much of a rhythm for much of the game. That didn’t end up mattering too much, as another excellent day from Baltimore’s defense and several booming punts from Jordan Stout throttled the Jets’ ability to move the ball. But this is about as bad as a team can look in five straight wins, and this quality of play won’t hold up against better opponents.
MVP: Jordan Stout – He crushed several punts on Sunday afternoon, consistently flipping the field and helping the Ravens win the field position battle all game. – Nikhil Mehta
At last the Ravens have a winning record. Unfortunately, it was another uninspiring win. Five wins in a row should feel better than this, but unfortunately the upcoming schedule will have much better offenses on the horizon. Jordan Stout had a career day, and the pass rush finally made some waves without being overly dependent on blitzers. For now, hopefully Kyle Hamilton’s injury isn’t serious, because the defense could suffer without him on Thursday night when Joe Burrow and the Bengals come to town.
MVP: OLB Dre’Mont Jones – The veteran pass rusher made a living in the backfield and had two critical sacks. – Mark Myers
The Ravens captured their fifth straight win against the lowly New York Jets. In the first half, the Ravens offense looked completely anaemic, totalling just four first downs. Fortunately, they ramped things up in the second half. Once again, it’s worth noting that Lamar Jackson is not looking good. For the second straight game, Jackson looked unsure of himself, missed throws, and was hesitant to use his legs. Defensively, the Ravens gave up a few big plays to Jets RB Breece Hall but did their job for the most part. Star safety Kyle Hamilton suffered a few injuries in this game and will be a player to watch throughout a short week. Overall, it’s impressive to see the Ravens back above .500 after their 1-5 start. However, the quality of their opponents during this stretch and concerns on offense will continue to leave fans unfulfilled.
MVP: CB Marlon Humphrey – Playing with one hand, Humphrey delivered the knockout blow, stripping Breece Hall at the goal line and putting the game on ice. – Stephen Bopst
