Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente spoke about Dani Carvajal’s current situation during the presentation of his new autobiography, offering words of support while also hinting that difficult decisions could lie ahead regarding his international future.
The Spain coach officially presented his autobiography today at the Cultural Center of El Corte Inglés ahead of the book’s release tomorrow. During the event, De la Fuente addressed questions about the Real Madrid captain and his recovery process.
“He’s a true captain,” De la Fuente said. “We hope he recovers soon. I spoke with him yesterday, and it’s nothing serious. But he needs time to show his true potential.”
The Spain manager acknowledged that Carvajal still has work to do before returning to his highest level and suggested that his place with the national team is not guaranteed if he cannot fully recover physically.
“We’ll see if he can prove it and gets the chance,” De la Fuente added. “Just as I brought him to the national team, he’ll understand if I have to make the opposite decision now.”
Despite the uncertainty, the coach made it clear that he remains hopeful Carvajal can bounce back and once again become an important player for both club and country.
“I hope he recovers and gets back to his best, because we’ll all be happy,” he concluded.
Carvajal has endured a difficult stretch physically this season, with injuries limiting his availability for Real Madrid during key moments of the campaign, and when he was available, he was benched in favour of Trent Alexander-Arnold. His situation has also raised questions about his role moving forward for both Real Madrid and Spain.
