Real Madrid captain Federico Valverde has been named in Uruguay’s World Cup squad, as expected. Valverde is a leader on his national team as well. He is already in the national team’s camp to prepare for the showcase tournament. Marcelo Bielsa announced his 26-man squad earlier today.
Valverde made his international debut way back in 2017 during the qualification rounds of the 2018 World Cup. He ended up missing out on playing in Russia
2018; however, by the time Qatar 2022 came around, he was already an established star at Real Madrid.
Fede Valverde has appeared in 73 senior games for Uruguay and scored nine goals. Under Marcelo Bielsa, he has played in the role of a pivot more often than he does for Real Madrid. Valverde plays a very significant role in Bielsa’s system that requires constant pressing. The profile of Valverde is obviously very suited for this kind of football.
