With Landon Dickerson expected to go on injured reserve, the Eagles need a new starting left guard. Drew Kendall should and likely will be be the first man up. I know people love Willie Lampkin — and I’m one of them! — but he wasn’t taking first-team reps this summer. It was Kendall filling in at LG whenever Dickerson missed time. Kendall lacks a ton of experience at guard; he only played center in college.
But he’s been learning the position since entering the NFL last year. I don’t like the idea of moving Cam Jurgens to left guard and changing two starting spots on the offensive line. How do you think the team should handle this situation?

Second-year offensive lineman Drew Kendall is expected to replace Dickerson, unless the Eagles decide on another configuration that could shift center Cam Jurgens to guard. Willie Lampkin is also in play for either job, although Kendall is the likely first interior lineman up. Kendall played center exclusively in college, while Jurgens’ first season as a starter in the NFL was at right guard. Jurgens also struggled against Washington on Sunday. Like Dickerson, he played through injury during the Super Bowl LIX run in 2025 and returned the following season following back surgery. He never looked 100%. Dickerson’s career, dating back to college, has been injury-plagued. He had multiple ACL tears, ankle surgeries, and other ailments during his time at Florida State and Alabama. The Eagles drafted him in the second round despite the medical red flags. He quickly became one of the NFL’s best interior linemen, though, and earned three straight Pro Bowl nods from 2022-24. But the injuries mounted, and while Dickerson missed only a handful of games in his first five seasons, it increasingly affected his performance. The Eagles’ changes to their offensive scheme this offseason were expected to affect Dickerson the most out of the starting five O-linemen. The wide-zone blocking requires more athletic and agile blockers.

I’d expect Drew Kendall to get the nod to start in Dickerson’s place this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman offered a now-telling admission during a news conference last month closing out training camp that, if he’d been given truth serum going into the summer, he’d have said the interior offensive line depth was the thing he was most worried about. Kendall, along with training camp darling Willie Lampkin and sixth-round rookie Micah Morris, each had strong enough camps to quiet that worry for Roseman and Kendall seems the most ready to jump up the depth chart. “If any of you would’ve given me a truth serum and said, ‘What are you looking for in training camp?’ It would be how our interior offensive line depth panned out,” Roseman said. “Those young guys and the growth that they showed, their ability to play in the passing game, in the run game. I mean, really, really excited about those guys, about being able to have those guys, being able to develop those guys, but at the same time, have confidence that if those guys need to play, that they’re ready to play.”

Drew Kendall to center. Perhaps the loss of Dickerson will make the Eagles shuffle their line. Because Kendall is a more natural center, the Eagles could elect to plug him there and move Cam Jurgens to guard. Jurgens is a two-time Pro Bowl center but was a full-time starter at guard during the 2023 season. Former offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland normally tried to avoid shuffling the line like this because he thought it weakened them at two spots. But Stoutland isn’t their OL coach anymore and Chris Kuper might have different feelings on how to go about finding their best starting five.

This means Drew Kendall becomes the LG. Willie Lampkin is now the top backup interior OL. Jake Majors or John Ojukwu could be promoted from the practice squad for depth. Ojukwu has more experience. Both guys are good scheme fits. Rookie Micah Morris is talented, but I think he’s more of a long term solution than someone they would play right away. Howie Roseman talked this summer about how his big concern in the offseason was interior OL depth. The Eagles had several guys step up and perform well. Now comes the real test. I’m happy that Dickerson and the team took decisive action. If you know he’s not healthy, get him out of there. Give Kendall a chance to show what he can do. Is this the end of Dickerson’s career? It very well could be. Hopefully some time off will help him to heal and he can get back on the field one more time. No one wants to go out on a bad game.

There were a lot of things to address coming out of the Philadelphia Eagles Week 1 win over the Washington Commanders, but arguably the biggest concern was starting left guard Landon Dickerson. Just one day later, the three-time Pro Bowler is expected to be heading to injured reserve, which means he will miss at least the next four games.

5) Eagles (1-0): The Eagles’ defense kept the Commanders from doing much of anything until the fourth quarter, and Jalen Hurts made enough plays to win the Eagles the game, but 10 first downs was the second-fewest in the NFL Week 1, behind only the Broncos. The Titans had 11. The Dolphins had 13. Even the Browns had 15. And the Eagles played against one of the worst defenses in the NFL. Not good enough. Last week: 3.

There were new schemes, new coaches, but ultimately a continuation of a year-old problem. Jalen Hurts’ second-half heroics allow new Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion to solve second-half stalls in the safety of the win column — much like his predecessor did until the stalls eventually did him in. The 2025 Eagles were the only team in coach Nick Sirianni’s tenure to finish a season with a negative second-half scoring margin (-7). The 2026 Eagles own a minus-3 second-half point differential after Week 1. Debuts offer some forgiveness. So do wins. Mannion, a first-time play caller, will look back on a mostly brutal 20-play sequence that portrayed the antithesis of the “aggressive” approach Sirianni said they’d intended entering the second half. “We don’t think about taking our foot off the gas,” Sirianni said afterward. Not intentionally. Not unless they’re bleeding the clock while nursing a lead with four minutes left in the game. But the Eagles went three-and-out on their first three drives of the second half. Several offensive players said Mannion wanted to turn to their wide zone run game after establishing a 14-9 halftime lead. The Washington Commanders thwarted the plan by sending preemptive pressure against offensive looks with a small sample of tendencies.

11) The Eagles didn’t start the season like a well-oiled machine, but they were able to rely on their defense for a good portion of Sunday’s opener and received some timely contributions from Jalen Hurts and the offense to outlast the Commanders. Philadelphia can be proud of starting 1-0, but the Eagles likely understand they’ll need to be better over the long haul to achieve their goals.

The Eagles have 32 cheerleaders. In addition to being accomplished athletic dancers, they have a variety of day jobs that include four in healthcare.

Ben VanSumeren could be the Chiefs’ first pure fullback to take the field since Michael Burton in 2022. The fourth-year player entered the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent linebacker from Michigan. Listed at 6 feet 2 inches tall and 258 pounds, VanSumeren switched to the fullback position in 2025, appearing in one game for the Eagles and spending this summer with the Buffalo Bills before being cut.

That was different. Yes, the simple fact that the New York Giants won a season-opener on Sunday night was different. The Giants had lost six of seven season-opening games against the Dallas Cowboys prior to Sunday’s impressive 28-20 victory. They had started 10 of the 13 previous seasons 0-2 or worse. So, sure, Sunday was different in that sense. What was really different, though, was the atmosphere inside MetLife Stadium throughout the night. Fans of the Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and other teams have made a habit in recent years of infiltrating and taking over the Giants’ home stadium. Not Sunday night. Maybe it was emotions from the 9/11 commemorations by the Giants. Maybe it was the beginning of the John Harbaugh Era following a summer of optimistic reporting about the state of the team. Maybe it was the introductions of Malik Nabers, who played, and Odell Beckham Jr., who officially returned. Whatever it was, the atmosphere inside MetLife Stadium was electric.

QB Jayden Daniels never looked comfortable. Maybe that was Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio getting him rattled. Maybe that was having a new center he barely worked with throughout the summer and maybe that was a new coordinator who didn’t do him any favors in play calling. Whatever the case, he looked flustered and a bit indecisive. He did have some big throws and runs later in the game, and I think things between him and Blough will eventually click.

Stock Down: Division dominance. Objectively speaking, the Cowboys have beaten up on the NFC East for much of the Dak Prescott era. Specifically, they have pushed around the Giants whenever they wanted. This was just one game to be clear, but it was not the meaningless contest that Dallas lost to New York in Week 18 last year. The Cowboys gave this game all of their might and the new-look Giants humbled them mightily. Next week will bring another test of this variety. The Washington Commanders took the Philadelphia Eagles the distance a few hours before the Cowboys failed against the Giants, and one of Washington and Dallas will fall to 0-2 by this time next week. Who will it be?

Life as a punt gunner can be hard in football, and particularly in the NFL. The basic job description reads like something out of “American Gladiators.” Sprint 50 to 60 yards downfield while tracking a punt and either tackle one of the more elusive players on the opposing team after they field it, or have the awareness to track the football in flight, see where it lands, and touch it down inside the opponent’s five-yard line. And if you botch either of those, not only will you become a meme overnight, but you will definitely hear about it in Monday’s film review session. Oh, and adding to the difficulty is that you will often be up against at least one, sometimes two, players on the other side of the ball, trying their best to prevent you from even getting ten yards downfield.
