CM Punk went scorched earth during a pipe bomb to open Raw last night (April 6), and Pat McAfee acknowledged afterwards that Punk’s insults directed at him
had gone viral.While his WrestleMania 42 opponent, Roman Reigns, was the main target of Punk’s promo, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion also took shots at Vince McMahon, The Rock, and McAfee.
What Punk said McAfee immediately got widespread attention. Not only did The Second City Saint discredit McAfee’s involvement in the pro wrestling business,
but he dismissively referred to him as “Pat MAGAfee,” before advising the football player turned commentator to tell his agent, Ari Emanuel, to lower ticket prices for WrestleMania 42. (Along with being a celebrity agent, Emanuel is also CEO of WWE parent company TKO.)
“Pat MAGAfee, you buggy whip-armed, no-brained hillbilly. You think you can come here to the business, my business of pro wrestling, and run your mouth? Well, you just wrote a check that your narrow ass can’t cash,” Punk said in his promo.
He continued: “You wanna talk about ticket sales? Do me a favor, call up that agent that was foolish enough to shoehorn into this business and this show and tell him to lower the ticket prices.”
Soon enough, “Pat MAGAfee” was one of the top trends on X (Twitter), just under “#WWERaw.” This fact was not lost on the unfortunate recipient of Punk’s vitriol, who took note of the insult with a nonchalant X post.
McAfee shared a screenshot that showed the MAGAfee monicker trending and wrote the following: “I just had a nice little dinner… Put girl dahn for bed. I come back to my phone. Is this about me?”
Of course, McAfee’s insertion into the Randy Orton/Cody Rhodes storyline for WrestleMania has left many WWE fans livid, and there has been at least on report that suggest TKO pushed the angle on WWE creative.
