Hansi Flick brought Bayern Munich one of the most successful runs in the club’s history, but left the club with a strained relationship after his feud with former sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić.
After a stint with the German national team, Flick landed at FC Barcelona where he has been wildly successful and just clinched the LaLiga title on Sunday — his fifth trophy for Barca in two years.
Bayern Munch supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge wanted to congratulate Flick for the
achievement.
“I’m delighted that he’s achieved that, because he deserves this success. Hansi has this outstanding quality of working well with his team and building a great relationship of trust with his players. When we were in Lisbon with FC Bayern for the Champions League tournament in 2020 during the Corona pandemic, there was an atmosphere like I had never experienced at FC Bayern before. This spirit and the togetherness were incredible. The players would have gone through fire for their coach, and Hansi embodies this value just like Vincent Kompany,” Rummenigge told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I know my old friend Joan Laporta very well and I also know how difficult the environment in Barcelona can be. Shortly after Hansi arrived, I ran into Laporta by chance and told him: ‘You have to promise me that you’ll be Hansi’s best friend. And always support him fully!’ – Because Hansi needs this trust to be successful. And I’m very happy that things turned out that way.
“To win the league title twice ahead of Real Madrid and to have significantly rejuvenated the team in the process is a great achievement. I predict that Hansi will also win the Champions League with Barcelona if he stays long enough.”
While extremely successful, Flick is ultimately going to be judged on his Champions League performance. Next season could be a key one in that respect for Flick at FC Barcelona.
