The No. 7 Michigan men’s basketball season got off to a hot start on Monday night. Michigan defeated Oakland 121 in their season opener.
Five-star freshman Trey McKenney had 21 points, Aday Mara had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Morez Johnson Jr. led the team
with 24 points.
There’s a lot of hope and buzz about this Michigan team, which is coming off a 27-10 season, a Big Ten Tournament Championship, and a Sweet 16 appearance in Dusty May’s first season as head coach. Further, the addition of forward Yaxel Lendeborg, a transfer from UAB and the No. 1 player in the transfer portal.

Per ESPN’s BPI (Basketball Power Index), Michigan’s projected win-loss total is 20.9 wins and 9.1 losses. ESPN projects Michigan to have the No. 2 ranked strength of schedule this season and give the Wolverines a 20.4% chance of winning the Big Ten Conference. Maize n Brew’s Kfellen Voss released a game-by-game season prediction for Michigan and has them finishing with a 23-8 record.
