Eagles Question of the Day:
Do you believe the offense can flip a switch in the playoffs? Head over to The Feed and weigh in with your answer and explanation!
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
10 reasons the Eagles can win the Super Bowl – PhillyVoice 5) Jalen Hurts is at his best in big games. In 8 playoff games since the 2022 season, Hurts is 148 of 213 (69.5%) with 1555 yards, 9 TDs and 1 INT, with 70 rushes for 342 yards and 10 rushing TDs. He was arguably the best player on the field during the Super Bowl the Eagles lost
following the 2022 season and he is the reigning Super Bowl MVP. He has twice gotten hot during playoff runs. Hurts is only 27 years old, and he has more playoff wins than any of the starting quarterbacks on teams that have already either clinched a playoff berth in the NFC, or that are still in playoff contention. Jalen Hurts: 6, Matthew Stafford: 5, Brock Purdy: 4, Baker Mayfield: 2, Jordan Love: 1, Sam Darnold, Caleb Williams, Bryce Young: 0. Is he the best quarterback in the NFC playoffs? In my opinion, no. But we have seen him do big things in the playoffs… twice… in the last three seasons. On a side note, as we have noted throughout the season, my understanding is that Hurts does not love when there are a lot of designed quarterback runs in the game plan, despite their effectiveness. In the playoffs, he should be more willing to run it, and the Eagles’ staff more willing to call QB runs.
Is there any reason to believe Eagles’ offense can find itself in postseason? – NBCSP
But there’s no margin for error right now. The defense is going into every game against good teams knowing that they have to be almost perfect to make up for an offense that we just saw gain 16 yards after halftime in Buffalo. The offense hasn’t gotten better, hasn’t grown, hasn’t progressed. It’s actually worse now than the first few weeks of the season. They’ve tried week after week to fix it and they’ve failed. So how can we expect them to miraculously fix it now, 18 weeks into the season? You can get away with elite defense and hapless offense against the Commanders or Raiders or Giants. Not against the teams they could face in the postseason. Since 1961, the Eagles are 2-18 in the postseason when they score fewer than 20 points, with the wins coming in the conference semifinal round against the Falcons in 2017 – think Jalen Mills on Julio Jones on the final play – and the wild-card game Chicago in 2018 – think Double Doink. So, yeah, maybe they can steal a 17-13 wild-card win and conceivably a 15-12 squeaker in the second round. But the only goal for this team all year has been to get back to the Super Bowl and win another one. And with this offense, this hapless, plodding, bumbling offense, that’s just not going to happen.
Eagles will rest Jalen Hurts and most starters in Week 18 – BGN
The Eagles have already clinched a playoff spot, and while the No. 2 and No. 3 seed is still up for grabs, it looks like head coach Nick Sirianni will opt to give his players a manufactured bye week. Jeff McLane reported that the team is expected to rest Jalen Hurts and other starters against the Washington Commanders in Week 18.
Commanders vs Eagles Wednesday Injury Report: Daron Payne on track to play Sunday – Hogs Haven
Washington placed C Tyler Biadasz on injured reserve today, ending his season. He suffered ankle and knee injuries during the Xowboys game on Christmas day, but won’t require surgery. C/G Julian Good-Jones was signed from the practice squad for OL depth for the final game. Dan Quinn said that Marcus Mariota was doubtful to play this week after getting stitches in his throwing hand, and also had a quad injury. Josh Johnson will get the start with newly re-signed Jeff Driskel likely backing him up again. Quinn hasn’t announced the backup officially. Laremy Tunsil is also likely to miss his third straight game with an oblique injury. Brandon Coleman will get another start at LT.
Eagles offense seeks to improve with adjustments, execution and educated guesses – The Athletic
The Eagles are the only franchise since 2000 that has won two games when totaling fewer than 20 second-half yards, per TruMedia. And both have happened in the same season. Philadelphia’s 2-point stand in Buffalo was yet another example of how the Eagles have tested the strain of a fifth-ranked defense in terms of total EPA. The Eagles have secured nine halftime leads this season but have been outscored by 30 total points in those games. Coach Nick Sirianni and Patullo deny their second-half approach is conservative, which highlights the inefficiencies of an offensive system that is purportedly on the attack. The “first-down thing” is a problem for the Eagles. They own a subpar EPA per first-down play (-0.02) when compared to the average NFL team (0.01), and their 4.9 yards per first-down play are also below average (5.5). It certainly did not benefit the Eagles against the Bills when they averaged 1.2 yards on their seven first-down plays. But the more pronounced issue is their lack of second-and-long production in this season’s system relative to their own history. The Eagles experienced almost the same number of second-and-long situations (8 yards or more) per drive in 2025 (0.99) as they did in their previous four seasons under four play callers. Given the 2025 offense’s overall regression, a downtick in second-and-long production would be expected. In more of a plunge than a downtick, this season’s second-and-long results most often alternate between detrimental and disastrous.
2025 NFL All-Rookie team: Best first-year players by position – ESPN
Jihaad Campbell, Philadelphia Eagles. 2025 stats: 70 tackles, 2 passes defensed, 2 run stuffs. Drafted: Round 1, No. 31. It’s a little tricky to give a first-team nod to Campbell, who was pretty resoundingly removed from the starting lineup once Nakobe Dean returned from injury and regained his old form. From Weeks 12 to 15, Campbell played 26 total defensive snaps. But his film is still pretty good. And now that Dean is hurt again, Campbell is back to a full menu of snaps. Campbell makes bad rookie mistakes against misdirection and in coverage, but his peak plays of explosive speed, stopping power and turnover creation are a sight to see. He just ekes out the first-team selection ahead of the second-team picks below.
Young Eagles star admits he could retire sooner than expected — but this must happen first – NJ.com
Jordan Mailata approaches his relationship with each rookie differently. He’s not on top of Kendall and Majors as much because they are “total pros,” but he gets on Pierce and Hinton more because they are still in the process of learning how to be professionals. He also pushes them more because he believes they have unique, untapped potential. “Hollin, he is my dark horse,” Mailata said. “Particularly hard on Hollin. I think he can be a great tackle in this league. The one thing you can’t take away from Hollin is his size (Pierce is 6-8, 341 pounds).” At every practice, Mailata evaluates their get-off, spatial awareness and the timing of their hands. Mailata said he will step in and correct those issues before Stoutland does because “it’s just easier to hear it from me sometimes than just hearing Stout the whole time. It’s better that way.” He tries his best not to yell, but he can’t help himself when he watches someone make repeated mistakes.
New Years Resolutions for all 32 NFL Teams – PFF
Find a long-term replacement for Lane Johnson and add offensive line depth: Lane Johnson remains one of the NFL’s premier tackles when healthy, but he will turn 36 before next season, making succession planning unavoidable. The only other player to log meaningful snaps at right tackle this year was Fred Johnson, who finished as the lowest-graded offensive lineman on the Eagles’ roster. Sustaining one of the league’s most important units requires proactive investment. Adding depth and identifying a long-term answer on the offensive line should be a priority this offseason, a need reflected in the PFF Mock Draft Simulator, where Eagles fans are frequently selecting Penn State guard Olaivavega Ioane with the team’s top pick. While questions about his length could push him inside to guard or center at the NFL level, his performance this season points to a future pro regardless of position. He will face a stiff test against Alabama’s collection of future NFL edge rushers.
Week 17 DVOA Ratings: Patriots Rising Up – FTN Fantasy

Spadaro: The Eagles had a December to remember – PE.com
“What we did last year, we’ve said it all season that it’s a new team and it has taken us some time to put things together,” defensive tackle Jordan Davis said. “We can be better. We always believe that. We want to dominate and play complementary football in every phase. We stuck together in that down period that we had, and we’ve come out of it at the right time. So, yeah, things are looking up for us.” The 2017 Eagles, the one that brought the first Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia, opened December with a tough loss in Seattle and then won in Los Angeles on a day when quarterback Carson Wentz was injured and lost for the remainder of the season. The team wasn’t exactly on stable ground heading into the playoffs that year but got it right at the needed time. So, you never know. But this much is true for this version of the Philadelphia Eagles: They righted the ship in time to take command of the NFC East and head into the postseason the right way. What’s next? The sky is the limit for a team that knows how to win big games. “Every game is something new, so just go out there and do your job and play your best football,” left tackle Jordan Mailata said. “Week to week, that’s the game of football. Every day we’re here trying to get better as a football team. That never changes.”
Jerry Jones uncertain if he’ll negotiate George Pickens extension via agent David Mulugheta – NFL.com
The Dallas Cowboys didn’t shy from making deals in 2025, most notably shipping All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons to Green Bay just before the start of the season after failing to agree to an extension. That trade is in the past now. Another negotiation looms involving another big-name acquisition from 2025: receiver George Pickens. Owner Jerry Jones — who attempted to circumvent Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, in their negotiation process — might be preparing to try the same approach with Pickens, who’s also represented by Mulugheta. “I don’t know. We’ll see how it goes,” Jones said during his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan, via the team’s official site. “Probably both, but I certainly expect to be speaking with George.”
Former Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs claimed by Packers – Blogging The Boys
Diggs will now reunite with All-Pro edge rusher and best friend Micah Parsons in Green Bay. Not long after Diggs was released, he hired agent David Mulugheta as his agent, which is the same man that represents Parsons. The Packers will be in the playoffs next week. It’ll be interesting to see if Diggs can contribute.
NY Giants will play season finale vs. Cowboys ‘all the way through’ – Big Blue View
The New York Giants are not planning to pull starters early or limit playing time in Sunday’s season finale against the Dallas Cowboys, according to interim head coach Mike Kafka. Giants starters will play “all the way through” on Sunday despite the 3-13 Giants and 7-8-1 Cowboys playing for nothing but pride. “We’re playing the game. Everyone’s rolling all the way through,” Kafka said. “We’re not even thinking that way [about limiting snaps] at all. Going straight through. Straight through all 60 minutes or whatever it takes.” Many fans, of course, won’t be happy if that is indeed how the Giants play the game. With a loss to the Cowboys and a victory by the Las Vegas Raiders over the Kansas City Chiefs, the Giants can still secure the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. With a victory on Sunday, the Giants could slide to No. 7 in the draft order.
Which teams have something to play for in Week 18? Who is resting players? – SB Nation
We’ve made it! Week 18 of the NFL season is here and soon the playoffs will commence. But, we do have a few loose ends to tie up before we get to all that. We have the bulk of the teams destined for the playoffs already known, but there are a few stragglers and of course the dreaded jockeying for playoffs seeding. Guessing what NFL coaches will do is not something you want to make a living off of. But, we should be able to narrow this down enough to have a good idea as to who needs to win, who wants to win, and who doesn’t care if they win. Bookmark this post, as we will continue to update as news comes in.
