The Guardians won one off of the Tigers last night. Cleveland showed fight and perseverance in their 6-4 victory over Detroit, but a lot of the same woes were present. They were 3-for-11 with RISP, but an unfortunate error by José Ramírez allowed 2 unearned runs to score to tie the game in the first inning. Jo Adell had another good night at the plate, with two RBI and a go ahead home run. The Angels both brought home a run with Angel Martínez scoring off of Angel Genao’s single in the top of the seventh.
Austin Hedges had an incredible night, continuing to draw walks off of Tigers pitching. Hedgey went 1-for-2 with a single, an RBI, and three walks. Read the full recap here. It will be a day game to determine the series winner with a 1:10PM start. The Guardians will return home for Rock ‘n’ Blast weekend at Progressive Field against the San Diego Padres on Friday.
With last night’s win the Guardians are still 3.5 games back from the first place Chicago White Sox. The Twins and Tigers are in second and third place, both 3.0 games back. This season is shaping up to a classic AL Central knock-down drag-out battle to the very end. As miserable it can be as a Cleveland fan to watch, it has been fun as a baseball fan to see so many meaningful games all season long. It is going to come down to the wire and whoever wants it more and leaves it all on the field will be the team(s) in the playoffs.
MLB released an article highlighting 6 prospects that are making contributions to their club’s playoff push. Angel Genao, naturally, was named for the Cleveland Guardians. But, emphasizing my point about the current state of the AL Central, Max Clark of the Tigers, Kaelen Culpepper of the Twins, and Hagen Smith of the White Sox were also highlighted for their respective clubs.
