The NFL season is half over, with nine weeks in the books. Several Scarlet Knights, particularly Kyle Monangai, hit their stride in week 9 and turned some heads in the process. Here are all the former Rutgers players and their accomplishments in Week 9.
RB Kyle Monangai: After a slow start to the season, Kyle Monangai began to see more and more touches as the games went on. Then, in week 9, thanks to an injury to D’Andre Swift, Monangai was named the starter. The former Knight took advantage of his
opportunity and had one of the best games of his life, rushing for 176 yards on 26 carries and having 198 all-purpose yards. He averaged 6.8 yards per rush and 7.3 yards per catch. After the game, the Rutgers legend had this to say after being handed the game ball:
“It was my first start. Nobody knew what I was gonna do, but I told ya’ll I was gonna step up to the plate. Whatever I gotta do to get the next one. Hey, five wins right there. We’re gonna go get a sixth one next week. Appreciate ya’ll.”
His performance helped power the Bears to their fifth win of the season, a 47-42 victory over the Bengals. Rutgers fans had gotten used to Monangai dominating at the college level. Now it seems that success is transitioning over to the pros, as many are claiming that the Bears have a running back controversy on their hands.
