Welcome to The Linc, the daily Philadelphia Eagles links roundup at Bleeding Green Nation!
Hope to see the Eagles try to put Joe Milton’s arm strength to use by having him take some deep shots. Also, a more general thought on Milton: I wonder if him playing well could actually reflect poorly on the coaching staff if it’s like Nick Foles said about it being a good thing that he doesn’t know the scheme well. Will be interesting to see what he can do in terms of making plays out of structure vs. what he’s
asked to do within the scheme.
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Eagles notebook: Meet Joe Milton, the cannon-armed, rabbit-chasing quarterback tasked with resetting a lost season – PHLY Eagles
“He’s a confident dude,” Steen said. “He’ll let you know. I like that. Everybody can tell you that he’s extremely gifted, so his confidence is cool to see. Especially for a dude that just got here, it’s pretty cool to see.” Jordan Mailata added, “Have you seen his arm? It is a fucking cannon — pardon my language. You see it on TV, you hear about it when he was going through the draft, but when you see it, it’s a work of art. … He’s really a team guy, he’s very open, talks to everyone. It’s a welcome sight because, with everything going on, he brings a good light to it.” In his limited playing time, that confidence has often manifested in him doing back flips in full pads to celebrate touchdowns in games, during the Senior Bowl in 2024, or, frankly, just to show off to his teammates. “I haven’t seen that yet,” Steen said. “Hopefully we can see it on Sunday.”
Eagles Film Review: Joe Milton is an easy player to get excited about – BGN
I am not pretending Milton is a polished answer at quarterback. Obviously. The accuracy can be wildly inconsistent, and the bad plays are pretty rough. But there is legitimate talent here. He has a quick release, rare velocity, real downfield ability, and enough mobility to add a different dimension to the offense. The Eagles have spent too much of this season making the offense hard to watch. Milton gives them a chance to run more boot action, take vertical shots, and use the quarterback in the run game. Will it be messy? Almost certainly. It could completely suck, let’s be honest. This is a poorly schemed offense with a lot of talent issues right now. If they allow loads of unblocked pressure again, he probably won’t have a chance to succeed. Milton’s mobility may help him escape some of that pressure. But the protection and the play design still have to give him a chance to operate.
Eagles-Giants preview: 5 things to watch – PhillyVoice
2) It appears that the Eagles are going to keep putting an injured Saquon Barkley on the field. It was reported last week that the Eagles are not trading Saquon Barkley at the trade deadline. Obviously, one of the takeaways from that stance is that Barkley is in the team’s long-term plans. Barkley has made clear that his body is not where it needs to be, but he has toughed it out and played anyway. He has hamstring and back injuries, and has clearly been in pain during games each of the last two weeks. In my opinion, in this lost season, it is malpractice not to protect Barkley, and the Eagles are playing with fire by continuing to put this star player in harm’s way. The risk is far higher than the reward. Barkley did not practice on Wednesday, but he was limited on Thursday and appears to be gearing up to give it another go on Sunday.
Game Review – WAS 27, PHI 10 – Iggles Blitz
DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks were out again. Makai Lemon went 6-57. He does a good job on short routes. He’s able to get open and catch the ball in traffic. Lemon had a gain of 20 on an intermediate catch and run. He had a chance for a downfield play along the sideline, but wasn’t able to make the grab. He got open. Just couldn’t finish it. That part of his game will need work. Darius Cooper went 2-19. Hollywood Brown went 2-17.
Roob’s Eagles Observations: Life without Jalen Hurts just isn’t any fun – NBCSP
THIS REALLY OUGHT TO BE IMPOSSIBLE: Maybe the most damning stat regarding the 2026 Eagles is that they’ve been outgained by an average of over 100 yards per game. How is that even possible? Through Week 8, the Eagles have allowed 2,938 yards and netted 2,122 yards for a difference of 816 yards – or 102 yards per game. That’s what happens when you’re ranked 32nd in the NFL in yards per game and 27th in yards allowed. This is the first time since 1971 – that was 55 years ago – the Eagles have been outgained by at least 100 yards per game through eight games. Also happened in 1937, 1938 and 1957. The 1930s were not good years for the Eagles. Neither is 2026. The Eagles have been outgained by at least 71 yards in each game during the six-game losing streak. They’ve been outgained by an average of 148 yards during these last six games, the most yards they’ve been outgained by in any six-game span since 1976. This is only the second time in franchise history they’ve been outgained by 70 or more yards in six games in a row. It also happened during the 2023 late-season collapse. Fun season.
2026 NFL trade deadline: Proposing deals for Tony Pollard, Riq Woolen, others – ESPN
Chicago Bears get: CB Riq Woolen. Philadelphia Eagles get: 2027 fifth-round pick. Why this deal makes sense for both sides: The Bears already made an aggressive trade for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons — a game changer in the front — but they still need more top-end speed in the back end. Woolen brings the physical traits and boundary speed to play man coverage with his 6-foot-4 frame, plus he fits in coordinator Dennis Allen’s split-safety schemes as a ball disruptor (12 interceptions and 59 pass breakups in his career). For the Eagles, they get a Day 3 return on Woolen, who is set to be a free agent in 2027 after signing a one-year deal with Philly.
What I’m hearing about Derrick Henry, Jonathan Taylor, Garrett Wilson rumors at the NFL trade deadline – The Athletic
Why the Eagles made a QB change. The Eagles felt shortly after the loss to the Commanders that a change at quarterback was needed. Tanner McKee is 0-3 as a starter this season, and Philly needs something different from the position. This will technically be Joe Milton III’s first start, though he played all but three snaps of the Jerod Mayo finale in 2024 for the Patriots (more on that at the end of this column). Known for his rocket arm and physical attributes, Milton will certainly offer something different for the Eagles. “All I know is I see a guy back there where something is happening,” one team source says.
Nick Sirianni admits that he misled reporters about quarterback situation – PFT
That’s the most important thing to remember. Coaches lie whenever they feel like they have to. Despite that fact, reporters and fans routinely take their words at face value, swallowing the bullshit while saying, “Thank you, sir, may I have another?” So thank you, Nick, for making my job a little easier. In my first week of law school, one of the professors said, “The most important thing I can do for you is to give you a good crap filter.” Because crap is everywhere. Usually, the people spewing it don’t admit it. When they do, it provides a tangible reminder as to whatever they say in the future. For Sirianni, that’s the most problematic aspect of his decision to tell the truth about lying. There’s now an “Exhibit A” to which anyone and everyone can point as to anything and everything he says when assessing whether he’s being straight with reporters and, in turn, with fans.
Meet Jalen Cyrus, the artist behind the viral Go Birds T-shirt – PhiladelphiaEagles.com
Gameday drip is a huge deal. Cameras pan stadiums across the country with precision, looking for players donning the trendiest designs as they barrel out of the tunnel for pregame warmups. It’s a can’t-miss moment on gameday. For Jalen Cyrus, hired in 2025 as part of Eagles Autism Foundation’s Neurodiverse Gameday Staff, the pregame warmups before the October 26th game against the Dallas Cowboys were a surreal experience. The young staffer thought he had been invited down to the field to do an interview about his job as a ticket taker and section usher. Turns out, Cyrus was there to witness Eagles players wearing something he designed: a white T-shirt, emblazoned with Go Birds in Kelly Green. The artwork, one of several sketches submitted by Cyrus, fashioned the G into a football helmet, with the Eagles Autism Foundation (EAF) logo inside. Cooper DeJean stretched out in the shirt. Landon Dickerson waved at fans in it. And Saquon Barkley kept his hamstring limber in it. “I was in shock,” Cyrus said. “I was mostly excited to see all the players and coaches wearing my T-shirt design. My friends kept sending me screenshots, telling me I was on the Monday Night Football Instagram post and they were calling me on the phone screaming.”
Giants-Eagles ‘5 questions’: Even Bleeding Green Nation has given up – Big Blue View
The New York Giants are visiting Lincoln Financial Field, their own personal house of horrors, this Sunday when they face the Philadelphia Eagles. Things are upside-down in the NFC East, though, with the Giants on top and the wounded Eagles at the bottom. Let’s discuss that in our ‘5 questions’ segment with Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation.
Cowboys fans assign blame for last week’s debacle – Blogging The Boys
What we got back was sort of an even split, but the majority of respondents (58%) blamed the Cowboys offense. The offense is the more talented group of the two, so there is an expectation that they will have to carry the team. They didn’t when it mattered and were unable to finish off the Cardinals when they had chances.
Commanders win-loss projections for next 5 games – survey results – Hogs Haven
My takeaway from those numbers is that nearly three-quarters of our community—74% of respondents, to be exact—expect Washington to put together a winning record over this upcoming five-game stretch. The single largest group, representing a 39% plurality, landed squarely on a 3-2 outcome. Only about a quarter of Hogs Haven voters anticipate a losing record over this stretch, and just 9% foresee complete disaster with fewer than two victories. That represents a dramatic shift in tone from where things stood just a few weeks ago.
Rams activate Myles Garrett (knee) from injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s game vs. Commanders – NFL.com
For once this season, it is good news on the injury front for the Rams. Los Angeles has activated pass rusher Myles Garrett (knee) from injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s game against the Commanders, setting up the reigning Defensive Player of the Year to return to the lineup for the first time since Week 1. Garrett carries no designation into the weekend, and Rams coach Sean McVay told reporters Friday that Garrett is expected to play versus Washington, barring any setbacks.
The Jaguars look like one of the NFL’s elite teams, and the best is yet to come – SB Nation
Early in the second quarter of Thursday night’s game between the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars and the Baltimore Ravens, the home team had Trevor Lawrence and company in a precarious position, thanks in large part to Kyle Hamilton. After a punt pinned Jacksonville deep in their own territory, a tremendous individual tackle from Hamilton on running back Bhayshul Tuten pushed the Jaguars back to their own 1-yard line, and after a short run, the visitors faced 3rd and 7 on their own 7-yard line. Hamilton looked poised to deliver another big play, lining up in the A-gap before the snap. A stop here would force Jacksonville to punt in a game the Jaguars led 10-3, and the ensuing field position might be enough to give the depleted Baltimore offense a chance to tie the game. At the snap, Lawrence looked quickly to his left and Parker Washington near the first-down marker. But Hamilton, instead of blitzing, had dropped into coverage to take that read away from Lawrence. The quarterback quickly reset, hit Jakobi Meyers on a deeper in-cut to move the chains, finding an answer for what Baltimore and Hamilton threw at him.
