Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), says he’s hoping Morocco face Spain in the final of World Cup 2026 so Lamine Yamal can see whether he made the right choice with his international allegiance.
Yamal is also eligible to play for Morocco but chose to represent La Roja and is now looking forward to his first World Cup with Luis de la Fuente’s side.
Lekjaa admits he wants the Atlas Lions to come up against Yamal during the tournament. “I hope we meet him in a final
to clarify whether he made the right choice,” he told Aljazeera360.
Yamal has previously been told he “made a mistake” choosing Spain over Morocco by Mustapha Hadji who feels the Barcelona teenager would have received more love from fans if he’d chosen Morocco.
As for Yamal, he said he chose Spain because he “always wanted to play a European Championship” and that “Spain was playing the Euros, I grew up here, and I feel this is my country.”
Morocco opened up their tournament with a 1-1 draw with Brazil, while Spain play Cape Verde on Monday.
