The New Orleans Saints are now 1-3 after falling to the Atlanta Falcons 45-24 on Monday night at the Caesars Superdome, putting a disappointing end to what began as an emotional night honoring the 20th anniversary of the historic “Domecoming” game.
New Orleans struggled to slow down Atlanta’s rushing attack, allowing Bijan Robinson to rush for 145 yards and two touchdowns, including a 59-yard score on the Falcons’ third play of the game. The Saints also struggled to establish their own running game,
finishing with just 50 yards on the ground.
However, there isn’t much time for the Saints to dwell on this loss as they prepare to host one of the NFL’s hottest teams in the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon, who are 4-0 after finding ways to win behind a strong defense and special teams, despite some offensive inconsistencies.
For the Saints, Sunday is another opportunity to get their season back on track before the losses begin to pile up and the hole is too big to dig out of. To do so, they will need a much stronger defensive performance and a more balanced offensive attack against a Vikings team that will look to leave New Orleans 5-0.
Also at halftime, the Saints will honor one of the greatest players in franchise history when Drew Brees is officially inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor. The ceremony will give both the team and its fans another reason to show up and make their presence felt. With Brees back in the building, perhaps his presence can provide a much-needed spark and give the Saints an opportunity to feed off that energy and give the home crowd something else to celebrate.
According to FanDuel, the Saints are currently 1.5-point underdogs to the Vikings, with an over/under of 42.5 points. However, those odds could move as kickoff approaches.
