Happy Sunday Husky fans. The Dawgs took a rough loss yesterday on the road. Hopefully with a few more recruiting classes in the program the Huskies can get some more depth and talented players that can help
them win games like yesterday. Today I wanted to look forward to the 2027 class on the defensive side of the ball and some players to monitor as Husky fans (recruits who have offers and are very interested in UW).
Along the defensive line the Huskies are doing very well with 4 star edge Troy Bowens from Sutter HS, CA. Bowens, who visited for the Ohio State game, is one of the top edge prospects in California in the 2027 class and is very very interested in UW. The Huskies are battling Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford, Tennessee, and UCLA for the 16th best player in California in the 2027 class.
On the inside of the defensive line the west coast has a large number of prospects that the Huskies have offered and are pursuing. 4 star defensive tackle Jon Ioane from Tustin HS, CA was up for a visit during the Ohio State game, and is a player who has been to Montlake several times. Ioane is one of the top defensive tackles in California in the 2027 class and already holds offers from Miami, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, Texas A&M, USC, and UW. Another 4 star defensive lineman to keep an eye on is Tevita Nonu from O’Dea HS, WA. Nonu, who is the highest rated in-state player in the 2027 class, already holds offers from Notre Dame, Penn State, and UW. It’s pretty clear that the Huskies could use a talent upgrade along the defensive line and if the Huskies can land players like Nonu and Ioane they will definitely be leveling up the talent along the defensive line.
At linebacker the Huskies have put a lot of energy into recruiting 4 star linebacker Colton McKibben from Carlsbad HS, NM. McKibben who is rated as the 13th best linebacker in the country holds offers from Auburn, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and UW. The Huskies are trying to recruit bigger framed linebackers for the linebacker corps and McKibben fits that mold (he’s list at 6’3” and around 215 pounds). The Huskies are also doing very well with 3 star linebacker Josiah Poyer from St. John Bosco HS, CA. Poyer, who is rated as 44th best linebacker in the country holds offers from Ohio State, and UW and so far has had an excellent year for the #1 team in the country (he has 6 sacks this year and 8 TFL’s this year).
Along the defensive back the Huskies are doing very well with Isala Aisa Wily-Ava from St John Bosco HS, CA as well. Wily-Ava is one of the top safeties in the country and he is looking heavily at Ohio State, and UW right now. The Huskies hosted him for their Ohio state game and they would love to add another long safety to their defensive backfield. 4 star safety Gavin Williams from Damien HS, CA is another 4 star defensive back that the Husky staff is heavily pursuing. Williams, who holds offers from around the country, is rated as the 8th best safety in the country and is a playmaker who can roam sideline to sideline on the back end. Safeties coach Taylor Mays has done a good job of getting the Huskies to be involved with some of the top safeties in the west coast already.
At cornerback the Huskies probably wont be looking to take a large number of players but one of their top targets is 3 star cornerback Mikyal Davis from Desert Edge HS, AZ. Davis has already narrowed his recruitment to a top 6 list- which includes Alabama, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Texas, USC, and UW. The Huskies have done well recruiting the state of Arizona and Davis is the top corner in the state in the 2027 class. Another player to keep an eye on is 4 star cornerback Josiah Molden from West Linn HS, OR. The Huskies are recruiting Molden and hosted him for their matchup with Ohio State. Right now it looks like a 3 team race between UW, Oregon, and Ohio State for the #1 player out of the state of Oregon.
There are a ton of other players that the Huskies are after but these are some of the bigger names I wanted to spotlight for everyone as we look forward to the 2027 class. That is all for today and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
