Ian Machado Garry was quite the busy little beaver on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 22, 2025), which included a decision win over Belal Muhammad at UFC Qatar, a backstage altercation with Khamzat Chimaev, and
a post-fight callout of newly-minted UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev.
Saturday’s co-main event at UFC Qatar featured a matchup between Garry and Muhammad. It was the biggest opportunity for “The Future” to date and a chance for him to stake his claim for a UFC welterweight title shot. As some expected — especially those who put late money on Garry — the Irish contender kept the fight on the feet and was able to out-strike Muhammad to earn the decision win.
After his victory, Garry took to the microphone and proceeded to call out Makhachev, who defeated Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 last weekend to claim UFC’s 170-pound title. Garry believes Saturday’s win over Muhammad is enough to land a fight with Makhachev, who is arguably the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world today.
Check out Garry’s post-fight callout below and let us know if this matchup makes sense!
“Belal couldn’t take me down, so Islam [Makhachev], you try to take me down. I’m telling you now, I’m the best in the world, and you have a duty to defend that belt against the best welterweight on the planet, and you’re looking at him. It’s Ian Machado, Gary.
“You come into my division, then you show up wherever you want in the world, and I’ll be there, and I’m taking that throne from you, and I’m ending that continuous streak.
“You’re done. There is nobody getting in the way of me and my future and me and my dreams, so sign the contract, and I will see you soon.”
