With the way Bayern Munich has started the season having won all 10 matches across all competitions, it’d be hard to suggest there’s much wrong with Vincent Kompany’s current squad, and they’re still without
both Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala, both of whom are working on injury comebacks. Even so, the club is always keeping their eyes open in the transfer market for potential prospects, as last summer’s window was a prime example that backup plans for backup plans are entirely necessary. There was so much time spent prepping for the arrival of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, but he wound up choosing Liverpool instead and Bayern wound up bringing in Luis Diaz instead. However, it’s not always about the big money, blockbuster transfers in adding solid additions to the squad, there also needs to be some emphasis placed on investing in younger players.
With that said, the German Rekordmeister are reportedly keeping their eyes on Hertha Berlin (Bild via @iMiaSanMia) talent Kennet Eichhorn, who is currently only 16 years of age. He’s a central defensive midfielder and has already established himself as a regular starter in Stefan Leitl’s squad selections as Hertha currently find themselves in eighth place in the 2. Bundesliga standings after eight matches played. So far this season, he has started and played in all but three of Hertha’s nine matches across all competitions and he recently scored a brace for the German U-17 side in a U-17 EUROs qualifier against Luxembourg’s U-17’s. It has well and truly been a breakthrough season thus far for the youngster that made his way through Hertha’s youth teams before making his break into the senior squad.
He is currently valuated at roughly €6m, which makes him the highest valued player in the 2. Bundesliga and he only just signed his first contract in July. If Bayern’s interest does become more concrete in the starlet, they would likely have to stave off interest from other Bundesliga clubs that are keen to try to sign him. Borussia Dortmund is also said to be interested in him.
Kompany has received some criticism for his lack of playing some of his younger players in the squad, which might not bode too well for Bayern selling their package to Eichhorn if things progress, but there is also the matter of weighing up the potential of a missed opportunity. The 16-year-old could wind up becoming a mega-talent, and it wouldn’t be the first time Bayern would have missed out on a generational talent.
