It’s Sunday, and you know what that means — it’s time for our weekly social media roundup! This past week was the first full week that the Yankees have been home, after their elimination in the ALDS more
than a week and a half ago. Just as we have here at Pinstripe Alley, the players have continued to look back on 2025, begun to look ahead to 2026, and started to enjoy the sights and sounds of an offseason in New York. What have they been up to this week? Let’s get started!
Reflections on 2025
With a little bit of distance now since the heartbreak of the season’s conclusion, several players have begun to post their appreciation for their 2025 journeys. As always, the majority of these posts tend to come from young players who just made their debuts (like Cam Schlittler), journeymen who have finally found a home and who appreciate every moment they have (like J.C. Escarra), and players who were on the move at the Trade Deadline (like Ryan McMahon and David Bednar).
Old Friends at Old Places
Every winter, a key component of the social media spotlight is keeping track of which players visit Madison Square Garden to catch the Knicks and Rangers (and, less often, who heads out to MetLife to catch the Giants or the Jets). Although he has since retired and taken up a position with the Chicago Cubs, Anthony Rizzo is still taking time to visit the Garden with his buddy Aaron Judge to catch some hockey.
Visits Abroad
The offseason is a prime time to travel, as players go on vacation, visit home for the winter, and all in all, enjoy the fact that for the next few months, their schedule is not dictated to them. Our first traveler of the winter was José Caballero.
CC’s Statement
Before Shohei Ohtani became the international face of baseball, he was an injury-prone designated hitter who was attempting to pitch. But in early 2021, before he took the league by storm, and when he had just a dozen starts under his belt, CC Sabathia went on the record calling him the greatest ballplayer to ever live while recording his R2C2 podcast alongside Ryan Ruocco. This past Friday, as Ohtani put together one of the greatest games of all-time to send the Dodgers to their second straight World Series, Sabathia took a victory lap on Facebook.
Nasty Nestor’s Injury
Apparently, former Yankees lefty Nestor Cortes just had surgery to repair a tear in his elbow that will sideline him for the better part of a year. We wish you the best in your recovery, Nestor!
Yankees Stand Against Bullying
This past Thursday, the Yankees posted on Facebook to commemorate Spirit Day, an anti-bullying day of awareness for LGBTQ+ youth. On their post, the Yankees made the statement, “This #SpiritDay, the Yankees organization is proud to join MLB to stand against bullying and support LGBTQ+ youth 💜.”
