Following a wild, high-scoring affair in the series opener on Monday night, the Braves will look to even the series on Tuesday and get back on the winning track against the White Sox.
Bryce Elder has been a wild (and shaky) ride in 2025, and he’s coming off a strong performance against the Mets last week in New York. Elder comes in with a 5.89 ERA across 20 starts, with the home run ball being a real issue in recent weeks. If Bryce can keep the baseball in the yard against the White Sox — who have
actually been one of the AL’s better hitting teams recently — he’ll have a chance to be successful and build on the start against the Mets.
The White Sox are set to start Shane Smith, a 25-year-old righty who made his big league debut this season and has thrown the ball pretty well for the most part. He owns a 4.01 ERA / 4.26 FIP / 4.41 xFIP over 21 starts and 101 innings with a 22.5 K% and 10.3 BB%. Command has been the biggest issue for Smith, who often sees his pitch count elevate and forces him to depart after four or five innings. Matter of fact, he’s only logged six innings in two starts since the start of May. We’ll see if the Braves, who lead baseball in walk rate in the second half, can force Smith to really work.
