Indiana football may be in the market for a quarterback this coming offseason.
The Hoosiers have enjoyed great success at the position through two seasons under head coach Curt Cignetti, with Kurtis Rourke guiding the offense to a 11-2 finish in 2024 and Fernando Mendoza winning the 2025 Heisman Trophy on top of the Big Ten Championship.
There’s options at the position heading into 2026 with Alberto Mendoza waiting in the wings, Tyler Cherry’s return from injury and potential additions through the transfer
portal. We’ll be going through several candidates that Indiana could look at.
Indiana football transfer targets: Quarterback
- Brendan Sorsby, Cincinnati
- Dylan Raiola, Nebraska
- Beau Pribula, Missouri
- Drew Mestemaker, North Texas
Josh Hoover, TCU
It wouldn’t be the first time Josh Hoover committed to Indiana.
Hoover, a member of the high school class of 2022, committed to play for the Hoosiers in June 2021 under then-head coach Tom Allen and offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan before decommitting in December. He committed to TCU and has spent the past four seasons with the Horned Frogs. His stats are as follows:
- 2023: 2,206 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, 9 interceptions. Completed 62.1% of his passing attempts.
- 2024: 3,949 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns, 11 interceptions. Completed 66.5% of his passing attempts.
- 2025: 3,472 passing yards, 29 passing touchdowns, 13 interceptions. Completed 65.9% of his passing attempts.
Hoover brings three seasons of starting experience to the portal and his stats speak for themselves. He’s not a runner by any means, but neither was Rourke. Cignetti’s offenses have adapted to fit the strengths of the quarterback and Hoover would be no different. If there’s any real concerns, it’s the amount of interceptions he’s thrown.
Cignetti has prioritized production before and saw the potential in both of Rourke and Mendoza. There’s definite upside to letting an experienced hand carry the program’s momentum into 2026 and Hoover would be a great addition should he commit to the Hoosiers.
