The New England Patriots will officially be without Will Campbell for the next four games. As was announced by the team on Wednesday, the starting left tackle has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a reported MCL sprain against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12.
Head coach Mike Vrabel announced the move during a press conference earlier that day, also revealing that his roster spot would be going to practice squad cornerback Miles Battle.
“We’ll put Will on IR here at 4 o’clock, and sign
Miles Battle to the 53-man roster,” Vrabel said. “Just working through some moving parts here as we get to the middle part of our week with Monday night preparation and everything that we have to do to make sure that we have 48 guys that all have a role and understand how they can help us win that game on Monday.”
Campbell, 21, joined the Patriots as the fourth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The LSU product slotted right into the team’s vacant left tackle position and never looked back, starting the first 12 games of the season and rarely leaving the field before his injury. When went down in the third quarter of Sunday’s game in Cincinnati, he had played 738 offensive snaps on the year.
Battle, 25, entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024. The Utah product found his way to the New England practice squad in October of the same year, and was eventually promoted to the 53-man team for the season finale against Buffalo. After registering two tackles and three pass defenses in his first NFL game, he competed for a backup spot in the Patriots’ cornerback room over this past summer but eventually was released ahead of roster cutdowns. The 6-foot-3, 197-pounder was signed to the practice squad, and has seen action in one contest so far this season as a game day elevation (Week 7 at Tennessee).
In addition to moving Campbell to injured reserve and promoting Battle, the Patriots also signed cornerback Brandon Crossley to their practice squad. A rookie free agent out of SMU earlier this year, Crossley, 24, spent training camp and preseason in New England before being let go ahead of cutdown day. The 5-foot-11, 186-pound defensive back spent two days on the practice squad in late August.
The Patriots will host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football in Week 13.
