The Wisconsin Badgers have two stars in the making at linebacker with freshmen Mason Posa and Cooper Catalano, who broke out at the end of the season, which then prompted upperclassmen Christian Alliegro
and Tackett Curtis to enter the transfer portal.
That put the team in a position to acquire depth in the portal, and they did so early with the acquisition of JUCO linebacker Taylor Schaefer, who committed to the Badgers back in November. This weekend, the Badgers made another addition at the position, landing Kansas transfer Jon Jon Kamara.
Kamara, a three-star recruit in the Class of 2024, had 13 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks this season after redshirting his freshman year. Known for his elite athleticism, as he competed in long jump, high jump, and the 100-meter dash in high school, Kamara fits well with defensive coordinator Mike Tressel’s scheme, which requires quick sideline-to-sideline linebackers that can be versatile.
According to 247Sports’s Jack Ritter, Kamara was one of the most athletically gifted players in the entire Kansas program this past season, taking a big jump from his first to second year. A cornerback-turned-hybrid linebacker, Kamara is still relatively new to his position and gained 25 pounds since arriving at Kansas, while maintaining his athleticism and quickness.
There’s still a bit of growth needed for Kamara as he continues to learn the position, but he’ll have a good opportunity to compete for a two-deep spot behind Posa and Catalano, and still has three years of eligibility remaining.
Wisconsin has prioritized youth and untapped potential with a majority of its early commitments, and Kamara fits that bill, becoming the second linebacker transfer to join the program.
