Bayern Munich is rolling under Vincent Kompany and the coach’s influence has not been lost on the club’s executives per Sport1 journalist Stefan Kumberger (via @iMiaSanMia):
Bayern bosses are extremely
happy with Vincent Kompany – especially because he treats the players the way the club has always expected. Kompany is strict, but not a ‘despot’. He strikes the right balance when it comes to authority. His relatively young age, as well as his own success as a player is helping him in that.
There are currently no dissatisfied players at Säbener Straße – quite the opposite. Kompany has given another chance to players like Serge Gnabry and Leon Goretzka after they were out of favor at some point. “He deserves a huge compliment. Especially during the phases last year when things were difficult for some players – myself included,” said Goretzka praising the coach.
Kompany also used the Club World Cup to strengthen the bond with and between his players as well as the team spirit – “I think this Club World Cup was really good for us as a group. It created an incredible energy. You can feel this togetherness, this enthusiasm,” said Max Eberl.
The atmosphere in the team is extremely positive, the players are having fun, that can be seen publicly during the training sessions, but is also the case behind closed doors.
During Oktoberfest, in particular, Kompany’s approach towards his players differs from that of his predecessor. The coach can be seen going to Oktoberfest privately with some of his players. He also hasn’t established any special rules of conduct and instead relies on their self-awareness – another point that the players appreciate.
“The communication [of the coach] with the players is simply outstanding. He simply shows appreciation for us,” added Goretzka.
With Kompany having won over the locker room and club bosses, is a contract extension (Kompany’s deal ends in 2027) on the horizon?
