According to Michael Scotto, the Utah Jazz have signed John Tonje to a two-way contract.
Tonje was the 53rd pick for the Jazz and showed what he could do in his short stint in summer league. In his first game, he shot the ball extremely well and then cooled
off dramatically in his second. He looked good while on the floor, moving fluidly and showing he has the potential to be an NBA player. In his final season at Wisoncon, Tonje averaged 19.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. He shot it well, going 46.5% from the field and 38.8% from three.
Tonje is likely to be a shooting guard in the NBA, given his size and skill set. He stands 6’5”, which is solid size for the position. For Tonje to take the next step, he’ll have to show he can shoot the ball in the G League. He’ll also need to show he can defend. The biggest issue for this Jazz team is its inability to play consistent defense. If Tonje can do that, while also shooting the ball well, there’s no reason he can’t eventually find his way onto this team.
