Who? And when?
After the Weds., Aug. 12 Dynamite made us wonder if AEW would really debut the duo formerly known as The New Day beside Swerve Strickland, Fightful Select posted that their AEW sources “wouldn’t outright confirm the acquisitions of” fka Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, but “it is expected that they are joining the company soon”.
We also got sign that Kofi is getting ready for his first work outside a WWE-owned promotion in twenty years. On Tuesday he filed for trademarks
on his legal name “Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah” and the initials “KSM”. As for his partner, I figured Woods already had his gaming/UpUpDownDown name trademarked, but he just filed for one on “Austin Creed” on Tuesday, as well. Both claims list the same attorney and law firm.
How long before the Broken Unicorn Boys (I’m sure they’ve come up with something better) arrive in AEW? KSM and Creed are well clear of their WWE deals. Has to be any time now.
More rumors!
- In their weekly report for Fightful Select, WrestleVotes said a Roman Reigns/LA Knight World Heavyweight title match is on the table, and there’s a ‘strong sense internally’ at WWE that the match will happen in October 10’s Money in the Bank.
- Aalyah Mysterio has officially started at the WWE Performance Center (that’s her to the far-left in Lexis King’s contribution to the “setup the fn chairs” debate). According to PWInsider, the 24-year-old daughter of Rey and sister of Dominik is listed on the internal roster under her given name Aaliyah Gutierrez.
- People at AEW weren’t the only ones confused by Bayley’s “All or nothing, baby” social media video from Aug. 9. On WrestleVotes Radio it was said the video, which included Mercedes Moné, “did not land well with everyone” in WWE. Some backstage called the post “eyebrow-raising.”
- MJF and Andrade were both planned for All In’s Casino Gauntlet since before losing MJF lost the AEW World title to Kenny Omega. That’s another one from Fightful Select, whose sources added the match would “heavily focus” on MJF and Andrade and adding “marquee value.”
- If anyone’s still wondering if CM Punk is on steroids, his trainer Jay Ferruggia posted an Instagram to tell the “weak-minded, lazy internet” to “cry about it” because Punk isn’t on steroids he just works harder than you, blah, blah, blah.
