AEW’s Grand Slam Mexico edition of Dynamite takes place next Wednesday night (Aug. 5). Considering this was one of AEW’s most successful shows of 2025, I was surprised at how lackluster the 2026 iteration felt coming out of last night’s Dynamite.
AEW addressed that problem in a big way during tonight’s live episode of Collision by announcing several new matches for their return to Arena Mexico. Here is the updated lineup:
- Adam Copeland, Christian Cage & Young Bucks vs. Jon Moxley, PAC, Wheeler Yuta & Daniel Garcia
- Mistico, Chris Jericho & Darby Allin vs. Kazuchika Okada, Kevin Knight & Hechicero
- Will Ospreay vs. Mark Davis in a Street Fight with no outside interference
- Willow Nightingale & Brawling Birds vs. Mercedes Mone & Divine Dominion
- Kris Statlander vs. Persephone
- Andrade vs. Komander vs. Tommaso Ciampa for the number one entry at All In’s Casino Gauntlet
- The Demand (c) vs. Hangman Page & Brodido for the AEW world trios championship
- Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Speedball Bailey for the AEW International championship
One big star whose absence stands out is AEW World Champion Kenny Omega. Perhaps
he will be on hand for an angle after Ospreay beats Davis in a street fight.
It’s also notable that Hangman Page’s first match back in AEW is for a championship. He can never challenge for the AEW world title again, so he might as well go after bald Ricochet’s trios championship.
Let’s hope we aren’t asking the question “can they co-exist?” while watching Adam Copeland and Christian Cage join forces with their All In opponents, the Young Bucks. The Death Riders lost an 8-man tag match on Collision tonight against the Bang Bang Gang, so I’m not sure why they would fare any better against a team of much bigger stars at Grand Slam Mexico.
If Andrade wants to be the first entrant in the Casino Gauntlet match at All In, he’ll have to go through Tommaso Ciampa and Komander to get there. I assume Komander is in this match to take the fall, given how surprised AEW commentators were that he actually beat low card guy Jay Lethal on Collision.
Of course you can’t have AEW Grand Slam Mexico at Arena Mexico without CMLL’s top draw Mistico on the card. His match came about after Okada, Knight, and Hechicero issued an open challenge to a team of “former world champions.” That’s a strange challenge to issue, but that’s the accurate wording AEW came up with to fit Darby, Jericho, and Mistico all onto this loaded card.
AEW is advertising the Grand Slam Mexico edition of Dynamite as being 2.5 hours long, so I won’t complain this time if the show ends at 10:35 pm ET.
