The outlook for the Rutgers men’s golf program has gotten much better as of late, and it continues to improve. Alumni Chris Gotterup is representing Rutgers well in the professional world, the team recording its best-ever finish at the Big Ten Championships, with the most recent development being Head Coach Rob Shutte being honored as the Northeast Region Head Coach of the year.
Shutte was one of six coaches to receive the award, as it is given out on a regional basis. The other recipients are Bowen
Sargent of Virginia (East), Nick Clinard of Auburn (Southeast), Ryan Blagg of Louisville (Midwest), Brad McMakin of Arkansas (Central), and Jim Anderson of Arizona (West).
In addition to recording their best-ever finish at the Big Ten championships, the team recorded their most PING All-Region honorees and most Big Ten Players of the Week. The team even had a freshman, Lucas Politano, qualify for the NCAA regionals.
Shutte pointed to the trajectory of the program as the reason behind why he received the honor.
“The program is so healthy right now,” he said. “You look at everything we’ve done — records with PING All-Region honors, the most Big Ten Players of the Week, hosting so many events, and an administration that truly supports men’s golf. There’s never been a better time to represent Rutgers, this athletic department, and this university. I appreciate the opportunity to lead it. There’s no better time to be a part of Rutgers Athletics than right now — get on board.”
It was a record-breaking season for Rutgers golf. Now they will look forward to the off-season and to keeping the momentum going in 2027.
