In the autumn, there was plenty of speculation that Liverpool left back Andy Robertson was considering a return to Scotland at the end of the season when his contract expired, but in recent months the chatter has shifted to a stay in the Premier League for the veteran defender.
It perhaps shouldn’t be surprising given Robertson is still just 31 years old, and even if he was pushed down the depth chart at Liverpool following the arrival of Milos Kerkez last summer it does seem a little soon for a semi-retirement
victory lap around the Scottish Premier League.
In January, he nearly completed a move to join Tottenham Hotspur—up until Liverpool’s attempts to bring back Kostas Tsimikas from Roma to replace him fell through. Now, Robertson is being linked with Crystal Palace and Aston Villa as potential summer landing spots.
On paper, a Villa side currently in third and favourites to finish in the Champions League places would seem the more appealing option, but after his experience at Liverpool over the past year the expectation would be that playing time will be key to where he decides to play next.
Wolves have also been linked with Robertson over the past month, but with the Wolverhampton outfit set to drop down to the Championship next season and with Premier League options on the table, a move to Palace, Villa, or perhaps Tottenham in a few months seems likelier.
