The Washington Mystics defeated the Chicago Sky last night for their only game at Capital One Arena in the 2026 WNBA regular season. That’s the good news. Generally speaking, the Mystics have stayed out of the headlines of the league’s talking points if you will. And their fans have remained respectful. Well, at least until yesterday….
A Mystics fan was ejected from last night’s game. The event came soon after Sky forward Elizabeth Williams air balled a free throw. But here’s the context. The ejected fan is a long time Mystics season ticket holder who jeers and gives the same hooting chant at EVERY road WNBA player attempting free throws. In fact, the jeering he has done is practically a Mystics tradition at this point.
Like all WNBA teams, the Mystics have a fan code of conduct. No explicit jeers, no throwing things on the court, etc. Ejected fans don’t get their money back and season ticket holders have incentive not to break the code because … they can see their ticket privileges revoked.
From what I’ve seen so far, as long as the fan was simply hooting, ejecting him is overkill. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
