Every year I like to do my own version of Spotify’s Wrapped, that yearly recap that dives into each person’s music listening statistics.
Frankly, the whole thing is getting out of control. Everyone shares
it on the social media and has to be a part of some “club”. There is a top percentage of listening that makes users think they’re an artist’s biggest fan. And now we’re seeing others get in on this as well – including Washington DC’s metro system and YouTube.
This may validify Spotify thinking I’m 80 years old, but I don’t care, because the whole thing is whack.
So, as is tradition, here’s my own anti-wrapped:
Fitzie’s favourite concert:
- Dead & Company at The Sphere – 9 May 2025: This was my first trip to The Sphere, and what a remarkable show it was. Bob Weir and the rest of the band seemed at the top of their game, and the lack of touring seems to have really rejuvenated them. The first set seemed a little too boppy for me (especially with Don’t Ease Me In following Good Lovin’), but the roaring Deal saved it. Death Don’t Have No Mercy coming out of Space will also be one of the lasting memories I take away from this show. The visuals were also an absolute spectacle, and the Dead’s stories and colourful history remains the ideal catalogue for the venu’s state-of-the-art technology.
Now, I will have to say this concert won by almost default, because I can’t remember attending many this year. There are many reasons for that. I hope to get back to more music halls soon, beginning with Dry Cleaning in February.
Fitzie’s favourite album purchase:
- Caravan, by The Jazz Messengers: This one’s been on my list for a long time and I’m glad to have finally picked up the record that contains one of the best drum performances in history – jazz or otherwise. I was also able to add to my selection of Japanese-pressed records with this and a few others. Like with concerts, though, this was a bit of a down-year in terms of buying records. This is why you’ll never see me as one of those vinyl influencers.
Fitzie’s favourite radio station:
- 88.5 FM The SoCal Sound: It’s always this radio station. Sometimes they’re a bit too heavy in soliciting donations, but that’s a small price to pay for a public radio station. I love how they feature local artists and feature new music while also throwing in some more established tunes. And while it is sad to see Andy Chanley departing for a Chicago station, the DJs still make it worthwhile.
Fitzie’s most played artist/band:
- George Harrison: This is a guess, but I listened to him nearly every working day this year. I like to listen to Harrison while commuting into work on the Metro during the mornings, and I spent a lot more time doing that this year. I’m hoping next year’s top artist will come from a non-commuting angle.
Fitzie’s top new album:
- Antidepressents by Suede and Moisturizer by Wet Leg: This one’s a push as I absolutely loved both of these records this year. Suede singer Brett Anderson’s voice is as mystifying as it’s ever been, and the band feels as energetic as ever.
As for Wet Leg, you all know how I feel about the band and the album. This one, for me, cemented the indie band as one of the most exciting up-and-coming acts out there right now. Look no further than CPR to see their heavy-hitting sound mixed with more intelligent songwriting.
Fitzie’s top new song: Stay tuned …
Fitzie’s track of the day: Don’t Let Me Wait Too Long, by George Harrison

The Standard: “Tottenham’s one clear priority when it comes to Joao Palhinha”
