As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the 2026 season at training camp, there are plenty of players on the 90-man offseason roster with plenty to prove.
However, when it comes to contract years and who needs to perform well this season to continue their career trajectory, wide receiver Rashee Rice fits the bill. He definitely has a lot to prove to the Chiefs and the NFL this season.

The 26-year-old
wide receiver, who missed the Chiefs’ voluntary offseason workouts and mandatory minicamp, served a 30-day sentence in a Dallas County jail for violating the terms of his probation, stemming from his role in a car crash that left multiple people injured on a Texas highway. Rice also had surgery to clean debris in his right knee shortly before he was sentenced. When he has played, he has been a productive target for Patrick Mahomes with 156 catches for 1,797 yards and 14 touchdowns. But Rice has also played just 28 games in three seasons because of a suspension and injuries.

Five Observations from Tuesday’s Practice | Chiefs Training Camp 8/4 | The Mothership
1. It was Alumni Day at camp.
As they do every year, the Chiefs invited dozens of former players to practice on Tuesday morning.
In total, twenty-six former players – representing generations of Chiefs football – attended the practice. Some recent players who stopped by included Spencer Ware, Charcandrick West and Dwayne Bowe.
Following practice, Head Coach Andy Reid invited the alumni onto the field to break down the huddle alongside the current players.
Beginning the next 11-on-11 period out of the shotgun, Mahomes served up a perfect pass to Tyquan Thornton, who was breaking to the right sideline. Two plays later, Mahomes hit Walker in the left flat, and upon seeing traffic, Walker flipped the field the other way to find open grass.
“That’s just how I’ve been playing since I was a kid,” Walker said. “Just learning from my pops and watching backs in the league. Honestly — just learning from my pops though. He says, ‘Too many people over here? Go the other way.’ And I feel like it still works to this day. I don’t want to run into a crowd if I can go somewhere in open field.”
Every year, the Kansas City Indian Center puts up billboards in the fall that call on the Kansas City Chiefs football team to change their name and stop the so-called “tomahawk chop.”
Gaylene Crouser, executive director of the Center, said that the billboards could be seen a little earlier and more widely than usual this year because of the World Cup.
“It was a little more than we normally do just because of the opportunity based on the number of people that we were expecting to be able to see them,” Crouser told KCUR’s Up To Date.

Robinson will receive $51 million guaranteed. The deal, negotiated by Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports, will end the running back’s weeklong hold-in at training camp.
With the new deal, Robinson will now make $22.25 million per year, surpassing the Philadelphia Eagles’ Saquon Barkley ($20.6 million) as the highest-paid running back year-over-year in the league. That could change soon, though, with Detroit Lions star Jahmyr Gibbs also holding in while he waits for a contract extension.

The extension is for four years and worth $140 million, with $108 million in guaranteed money, per team sources who were not permitted to speak because financial details had not yet been released. This extension makes Flowers the fourth-highest-paid receiver in the NFL behind the Seattle Seahawks’ Jaxon Smith-Njigba ($42.15 million per year), the Cincinnati Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase ($40.25 million) and the Atlanta Falcons’ Drake London ($35.3 million).

“Honestly, he’s been terrorizing practice,” wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase told Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports. “I can honestly say that.”
Lawrence is coming off a ½-sack season, but that stat belies his ability to impact the middle of a defense, both against the run and pass. The 28-year-old eats up blockers, freeing others to make tackles, and can discombobulate backfields.

“We’ve developed a routine after practice with Coach Bradden of doing ‘these hands,’” he explained. “[We’re] doing them every single day, so we can stack and really do stuff that we can apply to our game. So, [we’re] doing that on the field, coupled up with all the conversations we’ll have in the meeting rooms, outside of the meeting rooms and stuff like that. All those guys are just so hungry, and they want to get better. They want to be great, and they love ball, so I love having those guys around. They’re all great additions.”
