When you do something for the first time in 36 years, it’s special. When you do something like that at the University of Kentucky, where history is etched everywhere, it’s even more so.
That’s exactly what the Kentucky Basketball team did Saturday afternoon in the win over Vanderbilt.
When Kentucky knocked off Vanderbilt 91-77, it was the largest margin of victory at Rupp Arena when Kentucky was unranked and its opponent was ranked, according to UK statistician Corey Price. The last time was January
17th, 1990, vs. #25 Alabama when the Cats knocked off Alabama by 17.
Now the Cats will set their sights on trying to secure a top 4 SEC Tournament bid when they take on Texas A&M on Tuesday night before they close the season against SEC-leading Florida on Saturday.
Thanks to a Tennessee loss to Alabama, the Cats have an outside shot of getting that coveted double bye, which will allow them an extra day’s rest, something that comes in handy when the games come fast and furious in March.
