We are now just over halfway through examining the rosters of the WCG Dynasty Fantasy Football League. Today, we are looking at the roster of Kev H. Kev has been a regular around Windy City Gridiron for years and has been in the league since its inception.
Kev’s team started strong in the early years, but has faded in recent years and is currently reworking the roster to try to get back to that early success.
Let’s take a look at the roster:
Let’s dive in, and let’s start with the quarterbacks. Any
room that starts with Patrick Mahomes is certainly started in the right direction, and with the injury, having Justin Fields as a handcuff works well. I like the late-round pick this year of Carson Beck just to see if anything cooks there, but there’s obviously a big issue here. There’s no QB2 for the bye week. Another QB should be rostered here.
Let’s be honest: the running back room is in rough shape. There’s not a lot of running backs who score many points. The young players are mostly lottery ticket prospects. There might be one or two guys you can start in an absolute pinch, but starting any of these guys for more than a week or two in a season is a massive disadvantage for Kev every week.
The WR room is definitely in better shape than the running back room. Ja’Marr Chase is at the top, but I have a feeling this roster would be best served by putting Chase on the market and going to the highest bidder. Trading Godwin and Kupp would also make sense. This room needs to get younger. Carnell Tate is a good start, Golden and Worthy are there too, but it needs more.
The tight end room doesn’t have much to help in the now, but AJ Barner had a nice season last year. Roush probably isn’t going to be much of a fantasy threat, especially the next couple of seasons. If Eli Stowers becomes a legit threat, him with Barner would be a nice tandem.
Moving over to the defensive side of the ball, we are going to see a theme here of a lot of decent players, but not many true point scorers.
The defensive line: at tackle, there are a lot of names of very good players, but they don’t necessarily score massive fantasy points. That’s tricky when finding the right tackles. 3-techs over 1-techs, always. Jonathan Allen is a penetrating DT who can score points, but how much longer can he do it?
The edge room is led by Demarcus Lawrence, who still scores a solid total, but at 34, you have to wonder how much longer he can do it. Jonathan Greenard certainly can bounce back in Philadelphia; it’ll be interesting to see if he sees enough snaps to score big numbers. There’s not a lot of youth behind those two. Something this room certainly could use.
The linebacker room is the best room on the defense. Bush, Franklin, and Knight are all point scorers. McDuffie is going to take a hit this year with Franklin in the mix, but Carter should still get snaps in Cincinnati.
McMillan is a decent corner to have on the roster, but not a fan of the other three.
In the safety room, Byard is the best point scorer here, but his advanced age is of concern. Bud Clark is the first youthful infusion here, but it needs more. Unless he knows something about Sigle that I don’t, I don’t think that’s a big prospect.
The team is certainly in a rebuild. It needs a general infusion of youth across the defense, and while there are some viable WRs here, I think Kev might be in a spot where he might need to trade off his big guns for some young players or draft picks.
