NC State’s home-and-home with Virginia has become a home-and-Southern-Hemisphere, apparently. Pack Pride reported Tuesday night that the two schools are going to play a Week 0 game in Brazil next season, and if that’s not the most random sports development of the week, I don’t know what is.
The game reportedly will count as a conference game, and that was an expected change regardless of the location, as the ACC is moving to a nine-game league slate next year.
While college football games in Europe
have become a regular occurrence, this will mark the first time a game has been played in Brazil. The Chiefs and Chargers opened the 2025 NFL season in Sao Paolo, and not surprisingly, this left the people of Brazil clamoring for more American football. People are always comparing NC State and UVA to the Chiefs and Chargers, so when you really think about it, this whole thing makes perfect sense.
Ah, spring time in Brazil, with a little ACC football in there. Guess I’d best start looking into selling a kidney to cover the travel expenses.
