A pair of Dodgers are in the mix for a Silver Slugger Award in 2026. Max Muncy and Shohei Ohtani are one of two finalists at third base and designated hitter, respectively, in the National League, announced on Thursday morning.
Silver Slugger Awards, given annually to the top offensive players at each position in each league, are voted on by managers and three coaches from each team in their respective leagues.
Ohtani led National League designated hitters in on-base percentage (.377), OPS (.889),
wRC+ (139), doubles (26) and stolen bases (11). Despite not hitting a home run after August 18 as he battled left knee and right biceps injuries, Ohtani’s 30 home runs still ranked second among National League DHs.
Ohtani started 134 games as designated hitter, and was one of only four NL players to start at least 100 games at DH this season, along with Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies (147 starts), Iván Herrera of the St. Louis Cardinals (108), and Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers (106).
Schwarber is the other NL DH in the top two in voting for a Silver Slugger Award. Schwarber tied for the major league lead with 45 home runs and hit .232/.354/.503 with a 130 wRC+, 20 doubles, 105 walks, 97 RBI, and 95 runs scored.
Ohtani has four Silver Sluggers on his mantel, including 2024 and 2025 with the Dodgers in addition to 2021 and 2023 with the Angels. He was also a “finalist” at designated hitter in 2022 as well.
Muncy played in a career-high 149 games this season after two seasons with long stints on the injured list. He led all NL third baseman in OPS (.837), slugging percentage (.490), and wRC+ (129), hitting .252/.348/.490 with 29 home runs and a career-best 27 doubles.
Alex Bregman of the Chicago Cubs is the other NL third baseman in the top two of voting for a Silver Slugger Award. He hit .265/.355/.464 with a 128 wRC+, 28 home runs, 33 doubles, and 76 walks.
Muncy has not won a Silver Slugger Award, but he was among the top three in voting both in 2021 as a first baseman and in 2025 at third base despite playing in only 100 games.
Silver Slugger Awards have been around since 1980, and the only Dodgers third baseman to win one was Adrian Beltré in 2004.
Silver Slugger Award winners will be announced on Tuesday, November 17.
