It was a poor display from Reading in midweek but, realistically, who cares about that cup? The real cup (the FA Cup) is getting a first-round draw on Monday, and the league is back underway too.
Wigan Athletic are rock bottom with four points from eight games. They have scored five goals and conceded 13. This is set up as the most 1-1-coded match in the world, isn’t it?
Reading are the top scorers in the league with 22 goals, and this game could be a smashing. Kyreece Lisbie is on form and I am hoping
this continues.
On Saturday October 17, at 3pm, the Brick Community Stadium hosts the greatest football team in the world… and Wigan. It has a capacity of 25,138 so I’m expecting as many of you there as possible.
The odds are massively in Reading’s favour, despite the horrible away record, and I hope it does swing that way.
Edward Duckworth will be the referee for this one. He averages 3.9 yellow cards per match and 22 fouls. He most recently refereed Millwall vs Swansea City on Tuesday.
In this preview I will mention players who have played for both clubs and I will give my predictions.
Players who have played for both
I think I’m going to start bringing this back permanently as I really enjoy this part of the preview.
Here are three of the players to have featured for both clubs.
Will Keane played 14 times for the Royals last season, scoring two goals in his brief loan spell with the club.
He played 133 times for Wigan, winning League One with the Latics. He scored 50 goals and got 13 assists for them.
Another player who appeared for us last season is Finley Burns. He played 33 games for Reading, managing neither a goal nor an assist.
The Manchester City academy player now finds himself at Wigan. He has played nine matches so far, also not managing a goal or an assist.
Finally, Noel Hunt, who played 162 games for Reading, as well as managing the club. In his time on the pitch he scored 39 goals and got 25 assists.
In 2017 he played 13 games for Wigan, managing to get himself one goal and two assists.
My predictions
Joel Pereira will be in goal.
Udoka Godwin-Malife, Paudie O’Connor, Benn Ward and Haydon Roberts will be the defence.
Lewis Wing and Andy Rinomhota will be the holding midfielders.
Kyreece Lisbie, Josh Stokes and Paddy Lane will be the attacking three midfielders.
Jacob Brown should be the main striker.
Score prediction: 3-0 Royals
Apologies this one is short, I was waiting on a Wigan fan to get back to me but nothing came through in the end, so I was on a time constraint.
Good luck to those going to the game.
Come on you Royals!
