We are all well aware of the fact that Juventus’ finances are not in great shape these days. That was before they failed to qualify for the Champions League, and that is certainly the case now that Europa League football is only a few months away from arriving in Turin for the 2026-27 season.
That means new Juve CEO Giovanni Carnevali will likely look to every creative opportunity that he has to bring in a potential impact player on a club-friendly kind of fee. There may be no more of a unique deal
and interesting opportunity to come to the forefront so far this offseason than the one that Carnevali was on the other end of when he first negotiated it a couple of years ago.
And now he’s looking to have things come full circle in a way.
According to Italian transfer reporter Nicolo Schira on Friday night, Juventus and Tarik Muharemović have had “positive” talks over a potential return to Turin for the young center back who spent the last two seasons at the Mapei Stadium. In a summer in which Juve’s finances are strained (to say the least), Muharemović provides a unique opportunity in that the Bianconeri have a 50% sell-on clause worked into the deal. Therefore, instead of receiving a 50% cut of whatever club that Muharemović may head to this summer, Carnevali would essentially be buying the 23-year-old Bosnian for half the price it would take another club to do so.
Schira added that Muharemović has given his availability to Juventus over a potential move from Sassuolo back to Juventus after he first joined the youth setup in Turin in 2021. Juve appear set to offer Muharemović a contract through 2031 if he were to link up again with Kenan Yildiz after the two were teammates on Juve’s Next Gen squad.
So as much as the influx of cash would be nice if Muharemović were to go to, say, the Premier League this summer, it could very well be an opportunity that Carnevali may take full advantage of right now.
Muharemović has been previously linked with a move to Serie A champions Inter Milan, with things looking like he was headed toward San Siro for more than just a week or two. However, that talk has died down as spring has now turned to summer, and Juventus could very well be the beneficiary of that even though it looked like Muharemović had his heart set on moving to Inter this summer. He has also been linked to a handful of Premier League teams — ironically that came before Carnevali made the move from Sassuolo to Juventus to become the Bianconeri’s new CEO.
Muharemović, who is currently at the World Cup with Bosnia and Herzegovina and set to play Weston McKennie and the USMNT in the Round of 32 next week, started 32 games for Sassuolo in their return season to Serie A. He had a very noticeable mistake in his first meeting with Juventus last season, but on the whole he had a very positive season — his first in Italy’s top flight after playing just over 2,000 in Serie B during the 2024-25 campaign.
What the price may be to bring Muharemović back to Turin is a bit of an unknown, but whatever it is you can’t help but remember that Juve will basically be paying half of that with the 50% cut of the transfer fee they have. Sassuolo will get a massive capital gain no matter what the final transfer fee ends up being. But Carnevali is being presented with a deal that we don’t always see Juventus tied to. But it’s one that could be a boon this summer considering the financial limitations the club most certainly has to deal with.
