After it was confirmed that Leon Goretzka would leave Bayern Munich, the media went into overdrive to figure out who would be his replacement in Munich. The two players most reports centered around were RSC Anderlecht’s Nathan De Cat and Hertha Berlin’s Kennet Eichhorn. Eichhorn ended up leaving to Bayer Leverkusen for various reasons and it seems as if De Cat will not go to Bayern, either. Instead, Florian Plettenberg reports (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) that the 17-year-old Belgian has agreed a move
to TSG Hoffenheim:
Bayern have decided internally not to move for Nathan De Cat, after he previously was on the club’s radar. The club is currently not in the race for him. The Belgian midfielder has a verbal agreement with Hoffenheim.
BFW Analysis
Given De Cat not only plays for Kompany’s former side Anderlecht and is Belgian, to boot, the odds are good that the 40-year-old Belgian Bayern boss was a driving force in efforts to bring his countryman to Munich. However, Bayern seemingly do not see any need to spend money on the position when David Daiber and Noël Aséko Nkili (and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, if that move ever gets done) are at the club and can fill the role of talent behind the others at the club.
Instead, Hoffenheim look like they are in driver’s seat to secure the player. Having made it back to Europe and having lost Banzoumana Touré to the Premier League, the 50+1 rule exception look to capitalize on their positive momentum and bring in some big talents.
