Our long national nightmare is over! Ding, dong, the witch is dead! At long last, order has been restored. The No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes have officially snapped their four-game losing streak to those cheaters from Ann Arbor. After two decades of dominance in The Game, as Buckeye fans, we were probably due for a few losses, but that doesn’t mean that the past four Novembers weren’t exceedingly painful.
So, in our fan survey this week, we want to know what emotions were flowing through your Buckeye body when the clock hit 00:00 on Saturday. Then, in the second question, as it is game week, we want to get your insight into Saturday’s contest, so we want you to pick the winner and the margin of victory.
Today, we have the results for those survey questions. So, check them out below (along with my thoughts and feelings), and if the answers that your fellow fans put forth don’t jive with how you see things, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments at the bottom of the page. Also, if you feel confident about your score prediction, put some money where your mouth is, over at FanDuel Sportsbook, as they are the sponsor for today’s article.
Question 1: What emotion did you most feel following Ohio State’s win over Michigan?
The saying goes that organizations take their cues from the person at the top, and I guess that applies to the Ohio State fandom as well. Following Ohio State’s 24-9 victory over its rivals last weekend, one of the first things that head coach Ryan Day said was that he wanted his team to win with humility, and looking at the results from this week’s fan survey, it seems like 99% of the fans felt similarly, because the emotions felt were positive, with spite for That Team Up North coming in last.
I don’t know that I could separate my comingled pride, catharsis, and euphoria from each other, but the mix of all of those feelings is still carrying me through to today’s Big Ten Championship Game.
Question 2: What will the margin of victory be in Saturday’s game against Indiana?
When the FanDuel Sportsbook opened its betting for this game, Ohio State was installed as a 5.5-point favorite, but, as of the writing of this article, it has dipped a bit to -4.5. The gold standard college football analytics system, SP+, has it as a 26-25 game in favor of the Buckeyes, which would obviously not be a cover.
Earlier in the week, I went with 31-13, and even though I am hesitant to underestimate Indiana, I am going to stick with it. So, that would be a cover and an under. So that would put me in the 17% group that picked the Buckeyes to win by 15 to 21.
