The San Francisco 49ers were hit with a reality check in Week 18. A 6-game winning streak came to a screeching halt after the Niners only mustered three points in their regular-season finale against the Seattle
Seahawks.
We turn the page to Wild Card weekend, where the 49ers travel to the East Coast to take on the Philadelphia Eagles, who aren’t exactly coming in on a hot streak. The Eagles only scored 13 points on one of the perceived weakest defenses in the NFL, the Buffalo Bills. Since Week 10, Philly surpassed 21 points just twice, despite playing mostly bottom-tier defenses.
FanDuel Sportsbook listed the 49ers as +2.5-point favorites on Sunday evening after their opponent was revealed. The total for the game was 46.5. As of writing, the total dipped to 44.5, while money has poured in on the Eagles. The line has climbed through a key number of 3 up to 4.5.
Bettors are likely under the impression that Trent Williams and Ricky Pearsall won’t play, or will be limited if they do. It doesn’t help the 49ers’ argument that both linebackers could miss. We know Tatum Bethune is out, but Dee Winters should be listed as questionable.
You’ll always remember the last thing you saw. What the Seahawks did to the 49ers last Saturday is what most Eagles games have been like all season. The defense dominates, while the offense does just enough to get them across the finish line.
Will next Sunday be any different?
