Minnesota Golden Gophers linebacker Maverick Baranowski and kicker Luke Drzewiecki have both been named Big Ten Players of the Week for their performances in Saturday’s 27-24 road win over the Washington Huskies.
Baranowski was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after leading the team with seven total tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack, and recording his first career interception.
Drzewiecki was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after making both of his field goal attempts and all three of his extra points. He first connected from 33 yards out with less than a minute to go in the third quarter, before making a career-long 51-yarder in the fourth quarter that proved to be the difference in the game.
Baranowski and Drzewiecki become the second and third Gophers to receive Big Ten Player of the Week honors this season, following Javon Tracy being named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after returning two punts for touchdowns in Minnesota’s season-opening win over Eastern Illinois in Week 1.
